The physical rosary is a sacramental object that aids in the prayer of the rosary. Honestly all things considered the prayer is really what you want and you can pray it even without the useful sacramental. That wouldn’t be my style of rosary, but if it appeals to you have at it. Just pray the rosary, try and do so daily.

My first rosary was a simple one, with basic wooden beads and rope holding it together. Unfortunately it was poorly made and I discovered it actually lacks the proper number of beads. I got it because I prefer something simple. Oh well, it’s on my headboard unused. Currently I make use of my KoC rosary.

I feel there’s a certain danger to having things like rosaries in novel shapes and beautiful materials. Yes, while that in itself is not wrong it may be very distracting to the user. If it’s not, use away.

I don’t pray the rosary often but as a present from a priest in Italy I received a beautiful crystal and silver rosary. I tried using it for the Jesus Prayer and I found many times I would get distracted by the gleam or texture, etc.
Then don’t stare at it. Close your eyes and meditate on the mysteries while reciting the Aves.

I don’t stare at it; the point was the physical accidents of a sacramental should not conflict with its purpose. Plus I have no idea what you mean by "Ave"s because in no prayer do I say “Ave” (sorry, pet peeve; I don’t tell people to pray their "Shlom Lekh"s or "Abun Dbashmayo"s).

Too many people are worried about how other people pray.

I think the OP’s question has been answered. It has 59 beads, a crucifix and a center medallion. It is legit.

Too many are worried about the names of prayers. Ave’s, Abun Dbashmayo"s, whatever… just pray it.

And whil you are at it, pray for me. Thanks.

Ave is Latin for hail. If you pray “Hail Mary…”, then you are saying an Ave.

i.e. Ave Caesar!

As I was spending time before the Blessed Sacrament a woman came up to me and gave me a rosary. It looked like an ordinary rosary, so I took it and said thanks.

However as I started looking closer at the rosary I realized that the beads were hearts instead of ordinary beads, and their was a big heart in the center of the rosary. Any thoughts on this?

I have a “heart rosary”. It’s pink and silver and has an image of St. Valentine, my patron saint, in the center. I like to use it in February. 😉

As I recently became enthralled by the Rosary, I found some beautiful items that I want to use to make one, but I bought a cross instead of a crucifix. The cross is large with beautiful roses on it, and the large stones are white with roses on them. Someday, I look forward to making it, but it will be part of my home’s devotional display as opposed to daily usage.

My rosary of choice is wooden beads threaded with soft string. It has lasted me many years. I have been tempted buy some of the pretty rosaries I see online but know that I would return to my favourite. As long as a priest has blessed the rosary it is fine to use it. I am not sure if the rosary indulgence can be obtained if the rosary is not blessed.

I would have liked to see you reaction if she would have given you a rosary like this.
