Looking through pictures of Pope Benedict XVI’s mass at Nationals’ Stadium in Washington, D.C., I saw something in a picture of some Eastern Catholic Bishops processing in. Among the eastern bishops, one was wearing what looked like a cross between a Latin and an Eastern mitre, shaped like a heart.
It has a cross on top, so I know it is Eastern, and the bishop appears to be wearing the vestments of one of the syrian rites, rather than the byzantine-rite bishops ahead of him in the procession.
So, i’m hoping someone on this forum can tell me what rite he belongs to, whether all the mitres of that rite are shaped that way or he just has a particularily fun-looking one, and just maaaaybe, if i’m lucky, who that bishop is.
Anyone?
