I just heard the news of the death of one of my students, Ethan. It’s especially crushing because this particular student was a really special kid. He was known for being hyper and rambunctious, but his demeanor was so sweet and his personality so neat that you just couldn’t get angry at him. He was a good friend, stood up to bullies, and was always kind to his little sister. His death was caused by an accident on a homemade swing. Please keep him and his family in your prayers!

Gracious and merciful Father, please have mercy on his soul. Please give comfort to his family and loved ones.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Prayer for the Deceased

O Lord, grant rest to the soul of Your departed servant Ethan in a place of light, a place of green pasture, a place of refreshment, where all pain, sorrow, and sighing have fled away. As a good God Who loves humankind, forgive every sin committed by him, in word or deed or thought, for there is no man who lives and does not sin. For You alone are without sin, Your righteousness is everlasting, and Your Word is truth. Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

**Prayer for the Grieving **

Father of all mercies and God of consolation, You love us eternally and transform the shadows of death into the dawn of life. Look upon the grief of Ethan’s family and friends; be their refuge and comfort them so that their sadness and sorrow may turn into the light and peace of Your Presence. In dying, Your Son destroyed death; in rising, He restored life. Grant that at the end of their earthly pilgrimage they may be found in His company with their brothers and sisters. There, You shall wipe away every tear. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Dear Lord, please comfort Ethan’s family in this terrible sorrow, and all those who cared for him.
