My wife and myself went to see the movie, “Heaven Is For Real,” yesterday.

We enjoyed if very much.

People who have read the book say the movie is good, but not as good and the book.

Anyway, I was kinda sorry we didn’t take our grandsons. I think it would’ve gotten something out of it.

I enjoyed it far more than Son of God and Noah

I saw the movie and also thought it was sweet. If I had grandchildren I’d definitely take them - I think it would generate some good discussions!

I did like the book better. It is a quick read and I gave it to each of my adult children as a gift one year for Christmas. I think it’s simple enough and hope-filled enough without being preachy, to be a good gift to people who may have wandered away from church or just need something uplifting to read.

The book was more about the father than the son. I didn’t care for it at all and not interested in seeing the movie. God Bless, Memaw

I read the book. Not sure what to think of it all. It did seem to be all about the father

Certainly, it was all about Dad. The commercials look sweet but I skipped Noah, and God is Dead… so not in any hurry here to spend $10 to come out confused and/or angry.

Well, I didn’t read the book, but from what I saw in the movie, it was about the father as well as the son, but showed the father, although being a minister, was struggling with what his son was telling him. At first he and his wife found it too hard to believe.

Also, it showed how the father was struggling with his ministry and the board gave him a week to clean his act up and stop talking about his son’s experience. They were going to replace him after his one week probation. Meanwhile, the family were over $20,000 of dept not including the $30,000 in hospital bills for their son.

So yeah, there would be a lot of drama around the father. The son’s experience of seeing heaven, would’ve been told in less than ten minutes, but it wasn’t the entire story.

I also hope to see the movie. The reviews bring to mind another book “Proof of Heaven” by Eban Alexander III MD. Anyone who enjoys reading might find it equally uplifting.🙂

I saw Eban Alexander interviewed on TV. His story is compelling, especially where he’s a neurologist and able to counter accusations by medical professionals, that the anesthesia caused the out of body experience.

We went as a family on Easter Day. We all had read the book and we did enjoy the movie. I love the actors in it and my daughter worked for the casting agency who casted the boy that played Colton. Adorable. There were many more things Colton saw in heaven that is not mentioned in the movie you can see his father interviewed on youtube videos. Wish some of that was included. Not sure if it ended up on the cutting room floor or they just didn’t write it in the script.

Im curious why would the board want him to stop talking about this experience?

Because it didn’t fit with their ideas about salvation, hell and conflicted with their interpretation from the Bible.

Heck, we have Catholics rejecting the story essentially on the same basis.

We went to see it and absolutely loved it. Others in our area are speaking against it, stating it is not biblical…

They say no one has ever been to heaven and come back…I have read scripture to the contrary…

waiting for an apologist to explain

It’s hard for me to believe so many Catholics are being swept up into this. I read the book, didn’t care to see the movie. I wasn’t impressed with the book at all. To protestant in what was said. Heaven is NOT protestant. Seems we pay more attention to that kind of stuff and not enough to what the Catholic Church actually teaches. We need to get our priorities straight and stand strong in our Catholic Faith. God Bless, Memaw

The Bible tells us that "Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, nor has it entered into the mind of man what God has in store for us in Heaven. That’s what I read. God Bless, Memaw

What about John in Revelation or Apostle Paul in Corinthians…

Saints have been given visions of Jesus, Mary, Saints, heaven, hell and purgatory.

St Dom Bosco was brought into Purgatory and it was so beautiful, he thought he was in heaven.

Some Catholics, especially traditional Catholics, would’ve believed the boy if he was Catholic and only saw hell and Satan instead of heaven and Jesus.

He was an four year old innocent non-Catholic, who was given a gift of seeing Jesus and Heaven, and they blow him off. His experience brought people around them closer to Jesus, especially his minister father who struggled with it all. In fact, his father’s faith seemed to be on an intellectual basis before his son began expressing his experience. It challenged the father, but in the end he realized that all he had been preaching from the Bible meant nothing without the experience of God’s love.

BTW, I have not read the book, but those who did, said he did know of Satan’s presence but Satan was suppressed because he was with Jesus.

Don’t know about this, but a person who read the book had told me about it.

I have been looking into the NDE (near death experience) phenomena off and on for forty years. Dr. Elizabeth Kubler Ross was one of the first to study this. It fascinates me, but I have read so many stories from those with an NDE that I have no real interest in seeing this film. Howard Storm’s story is interesting. He was an atheist, and promoted atheism as a college professor. He was taken into hell before calling on Jesus in hell and being rescued. When his soul went back into his body and his body healed, he became a Protestant church pastor. There are many many stories of non-Christians who have NDEs and have visited portions of heaven. Some common themes for most are:
  1. Floating above the body, and seeing the body.
  2. Zooming up through a tunnel.
  3. Seeing a bright light and feeling the peace, warmth and love emanating from it.
  4. Experiencing a life review in great detail, yet seemingly very quickly.
  5. Feeling forgiven.
  6. Wanting to stay, but gently told they most go back.

The difference emphasized in the movie is, the boy didn’t die.

His experience was not a NDE, according to the boy and the doctors in the movie.
