Heaven to be 'boring'?

In Tradition, many things about heaven seem to be ‘boring’ in a way. I just don’t like the idea that in heaven, we’re going to know about everything, and everything about each other. Harmony can get too far. In my opinion, not being able to really learn anything else is very** boring. Also, I was hoping for a ‘God Language’ with new heavenly sounds and syllables that no human could ever make, but I’m pretty sure there won’t be talking in heaven, because we’ll know everything about each other. I can’t make heaven what I want heaven to be, I guess. 🤷**

There he finds revealed an Eternal Light, and in this light, he feels the eternal demand of the Divine Unity; and he feels himself to be an eternal fire of love, which craves above all else to be one with God. The more he yields to this indrawing or demand, the more he feels it. And the more he feels it, the more he craves to be one with God; for it urges him to pay the debt which is demanded of him by God. This eternal demand of the Divine Unity kindles within the spirit an eternal fire of love; and though the spirit incessantly pays the debt, an eternal burning continues within it. This simple Unity of God none can feel or possess save he who maintains himself in the immeasurable radiance, and in the love which is above reason and wayless. In this transcendent state the spirit feels in itself the eternal fire of love; and in this fire of love it finds neither beginning nor end, and it feels itself one with this fire of love.

The spirit for ever continues to burn in itself, for its love is eternal; and it feels itself ever more and more to be burnt up in love, for it is drawn and transformed into the Unity of God, where the spirit burns in love. If it observes itself, it finds a distinction and an otherness between itself and God; but where it is burnt up it is undifferentiated and without distinction, and therefore it feels nothing but unity; for the flame of the Love of God consumes and devours all that it can enfold in its Self.

And thus you may see that the indrawing Unity of God is nought else than the fathomless Love, which lovingly draws inward, in eternal fruition, the Father and the Son and all that lives in Them. And in this Love we shall burn and be burnt up without end, throughout eternity; for herein lies the blessedness of all spirits. And therefore we must all found our lives upon a fathomless abyss; that we may eternally plunge into Love, and sink down in the fathomless Depth.

And with that same Love, we shall ascend, and transcend ourselves, in the incomprehensible Height. And in that Love which is wayless, we shall wander and stray, and it shall lead us and lose us in the immeasurable Breadth of the Love of God. And herein we shall flee forth and flee out of ourselves, into the unknown raptures of the Goodness and Riches of God. And therein we shall melt and be melted away, and shall eternally wander and sojourn within the Glory of God.

Because the mind can express this it is immeasurably short of the ineffable presence of God. There is no time in heaven and no duration within which to become bored.

Heaven won’t be boring at all, it is a continuous activity and prayer, while you behold the face of God. It will be the fulfillment of our goal. We were made for it. Trust me, it’s well worth the while to get there. You wont need to know anything else, because you will know God, not in his fullness of course, but to the degree that you let him here be a part of your life. That is, if one gets to Heaven. There is talking in Heaven. How do you think the saints intervene for us?! It’s a completely new way of talking, one that we cannot even imagine. It is called the communion of saints, for a reason. Communion implies communication, too. So, don’t worry about the details, just do your best to get to Heaven. 😉

I don’t know how Heaven will ever be boring! You know as soon as you die you long for God if you are still in a Purgatory state. If you are already in a Heavenly state that this longing will be fulfilled. St. Maria Faustina received visions of both Purgatory and Heaven. She noted that all the souls in Purgatory longed for God. It seemed that for the souls in Purgatory this longing while it was deterred while living on earth actually kicks in when you die. There is a way lot more expecting for us and it will never be boring.

Strive for holiness consistently, for our desire and striving for it in this world will determine our state of blessedness (“one person more perfectly than another according to the difference of their merits” as the Council of Florence put it in 1439) in the next.

I can sympathize with the OP here. Continous prayer seems very boring. Call it immature, but my view of prayer is that it is a chore, unpleasurable, and something that just needs to be done. Honestly, id rather be doing other things.

On one hand I can see where you are coming from.

On the other hand, I think we need to expand our definition of prayer. Prayer is a way of communing with God. In heaven we commune with God in a much deeper way than we do here on earth. Who does not want to commune with the source of all that is good and beautiful? I certainly would.
 
We know that Heaven will be a wonderful place,their will no more suffering,only peace and Happiness,I,am waiting for the day, when I die,to be able too be in the present of Jesus and Mary,the Angels and Saints, all all the ones I know, Heaven will be a much better place,than binging on earth which is full of violence and hatetred. It so bad ,that I can,t wait for God too call me home.

You’re viewing heaven from the perspective of time. Heaven isn’t an ongoing timeline, like Earth; it’s an eternal now. So being “bored” is a nonsensical proposition in heaven, because your state of being doesn’t change. You’re simply in an infinitely deep state of ecstasy.

It’s like a married couple who are deeply in love and are overtaken by romantic feelings while on their honeymoon, but its infinitely better and never gets less pleasing.

But if that doesn’t sound appealing, just remind yourself that it’s a heck of a lot better than hell. 😉

Well, we need to have a better understanding of what prayer is. When people say that heaven is constant prayer, they don’t mean that we’re praying a rosary with an infinitely great number of decades. Being in a constant state of prayer means that our soul is constantly rejoicing in the presence of God and praising Him. And since we are in heaven, God responds to that rejoicing and praise on the part of His bride with an unimaginable great and infinite love.

Who, if they are in love, does not constantly have their beloved on their mind?

We were created for heaven. It’s our natural end. Just as we are satisfied when we eat, drink and sleep, we too will be satisfied when we are in heaven. To be unhappy in heaven is to be something other than human.

(Provided that we are not in a state of sin, of course, since being in a state of sin in the presence of God is a spiritual pain of unimaginable magnitude. That’s why there are humans in hell, by the way; it’s a refuge for them, since its punishing fires are still less painful than the piercing glory of God. Hell was created for Satan and his angels alone, but humans may go there if they they choose to reject God and thus make heaven an impossible reality for themselves.)

I understand where you are coming from Nanotwerp. I once had similar thoughts as you have now. But, I did a little research (see below), and my feelings on the subject changed.

I suggest you read a book titled “End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life”, a series of conferences by Fr. Charles Arminjon. It is a book that inspired St. Therese. In the book, you’ll find a fascinating conception of Heaven, which discusses the physical nature of Heaven as well as the Beatific Vision. Other topics include armageddon, purgatory, and hell.

I also suggest you read about a vision by St. John Bosco, tfp.org/tfp-home/catholic-perspective/heaven-the-hope-of-our-souls.html - which shows a physical landscape - also shows that we can sing in heaven and enjoy listening to others sing.

Heaven is not some kind of dimensionless plane of existence where we all stand around motionless praying to God. I believe that Heaven will be familiar to us humans, yet far more beautiful a place than Earth. Our existence in Heaven will be one of love, loving and communing with God, as well as with others. And also, when you think of Heaven, think of it as not only a place, but also a state of being, as Heaven will also include Earth and the starry heavens (New Heaven and New Earth).

Also, it was C.S. Lewis who said, “Aim at Heaven and you will get Earth ‘thrown in’: aim at Earth and you will get neither.” C.S. Lewis was a friend of J.R.R. Tolkien, (Lewis is Anglican, not Catholic), but Tolkien, who was Catholic, was instrumental in converting Lewis from atheism,

Not to mention, I would suggest looking up a section in the Catechism called “THE HOPE OF THE NEW HEAVEN AND THE NEW EARTH”. It’s pretty enlightening as to our future existence in a renewed universe and earth in both glorified body and soul. Also, look up catholic beliefs on the gifts of the glorified body that we receive after our resurrection.

This too is a pretty fascinating little article, about a nun, a saint who told her convent that she would be with them after her death and would never leave them, and while they would be singing, they could hear her voice singing along. So being with God is boring? this is a pretty pathetic view of God. I hardly think God will be boring. Sorry you feel this way.
