Why do we as Christians have such great grief when a loved one dies, if we know that they are going to Heaven?

Only God knows who goes to Heaven. We can hope and pray that’s where our departed loved ones are but we cannot know that with certainty.

For me, its entirely selfish, I just don’t want them not with me. I cry because I won’t see them again during my time on earth, I cry because I didn’t say everything I could to tell them I care. Those are the reasons I mourn.

But you will have an eternity to tell them that? What difference do a 50 or so years make?
