In Mormonism, God the Father is mostly refered to as “Heavenly Father,” and in my case, “Padre Celestial.” Growing up Catholic, I don’t remember many people calling God “Padre Celestial,” although now that I spent one year in the Mormon church, i’ve noticed that the Catholic Church also uses “Padre Celestial” - “Heavenly Father.”

What has been your experience with this title for God? I feel comfortable using it.
Thanks!
En Cristo,
Pablo

Hi Pablo, I no longer feel comfortable using this term because the heavenly father that mormons pray to is not the Almighty Father and everlasting God that we know as catholics. As you know their god is just one of many, so I tend to follow Christ’s lead and call Him Father, but that’s just how I feel. I don’t suppose there is anything wrong with the title, it’s probably just my hangover from mormonism.
God bless

We’ve always used it growing up. I’d say I heard it probably almost every day.

I’ve noticed that reference in Mormonism. I’m personally not too bothered by it.

While I personally use “Father”…“Lord God”…“Father God”…“Heavenly Father” doesn’t bother me in the least…I typically don’t address God as “Heavenly Father”…but I see nothing wrong with it…“Our Father which art in heaven…”

I know protestants, (specifically: presbyterians, evangelicals), use it. I’ve never used it on my own as a Catholic, only in my joint prayers with them. Nothing wrong with it, I think.

As long as you approach Him with respect I believe that the details are up to the individual. However, “Our Father who art in Heaven” seems pretty darn close to “Heavenly Father” to me;)

It does seem very similar. 👍

I’m pretty much a non-denominational Protestant who belongs to an Assemblies of God church, and I sometimes say “Heavenly Father” when I pray. Likely I did pick it up from Mormons I’ve known, but I don’t see anything wrong with it.

I use Heavenly Father in my nightly prayers. I do not see anything wrong with it. While the Mormons may use it to identify something different then I do. I am the one making the identification and know what I mean. 🙂
