Good Morning wonderful community. I have a question. First of all, I am a male of 30 years old in graduate school. About to finish my Ph.D. this December. I have been in school for some time now and my program is very stressful, I have been a catholic all my life but like we all, have had my fair share of struggles.

I have been experiencing strange things lately in that I find myself comparing myself to everyone and all other people and feeling inadequate. The Lord has blessed me with so much and I don’t know how to let go of these horrible feelings of inadequacy. I was in a few relationships last year that did not work out so I am wondering if it is stemming from that.

I have been trying to receive graces and to stay in the state of grace as in frequenting confession and receiving communion. I have been saying the Auxilium Christianorum prayers every morning day to day and before I sleep however I have not been alleviated from negative thoughts and feelings. I have researched and wondered if I am suffering from Acedia. I have started praying Psalm 90 as I heard it is a wonderful aid against Acedia and the noonday devil. I want to increase my novenas, however it just seems like the more I pray…the more I try to walk the narrow path. THE HARDER EVERYTHING seems to be.

Don’t get me wrong I would never do anything to hurt or harm myself, but I have been getting negative intrusive thoughts in that department so I am implementing the Brief of Saint Anthony in case that comes about. I am GRATEFUL for the life and to be alive and for what Jesus Christ has done for me. He died for me on the cross. Why am I feeling so terrible.

I find that at night time these feelings are extremely alleviated but once the morning hits, the negative thoughts and chatters assail my mind. I am in a state of grace. How do I restore my joy?

May God pray for you all and keep me in your prayers!

Keep in mind, that when we are getting close to the Lord, the prince of lies just can’t stand it, and will try everything to lead you away from the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Pray the St. Michael prayer in the morning and evening, the rosary prayers when you can get a decade in, and trust God.
Padre Pio famously said “Pray and don’t worry about anything!”

Words to live by!

Peace.

Perhaps some stress is at work here. Maybe a short vacation or a 3 day retreat would help. Speek to your priest. Peace and prayers.
