What are your opinions about heavy metal music, regarding Christianity? Is it wrong according to the Catholic church, is it unmoral? I am taking for example bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, etc.
What does heavy metal has to do with god that it is rejected by Catholics? (I am not talking about the subjective issue of musical preferences, but about the meaning of the music, the concept)

Jonathan.

I dont really know much about it. Its just a style of music. My guess is that if the song doesnt contain morally offensive lyrics then its not wrong or immoral.

The question is, what is considered to be ‘morally offensive lyrics’? If the whole song is pro-Catholic, but uses the ‘s’ word. Is it considered offensive? On the other hand, a song which view an anti-religious attitude, but uses clean language and solid basis - is it considered morally offensive?

Hello Jonathan.

Metal-heads are no worse off than Sinatra, Elvis, or Beatles fans. Devout fanaticism of any of the pop icons (or love of money for that matter) is a symptom of today’s culture.

My opinion is that as your faith in God and you knowledge of the truth of the Catholic faith grow, all these has-beens will fade from memory.
