Does heavy petting is a sin withing a relatioship before marriage?

Not to get too graphic, but what you seem to be suggesting is either foreplay or very close to foreplay.

I will let the moral theologians give the definitive answer, but…
Do yourself a favor: Don’t.

Would you be okay with doing that in front of his/her parents and siblings?

Hey @adrian1 thing is, no good will come of “heavy petting”.

If you avoid it, you’ll gain because you’ll have more time/availability to work on the emotional/affective parts of your relationship, on your friendship, and love.

How to not “petting”?? Avoid the occasions!! If you get yourself into the occasion you’ll hardly be able to stop…!!!

YES.

If I am understanding the terminology correctly — and I think I am — it is an objectively grave sin that, if committed with sufficient reflection and full consent of the will, would be a mortal sin.

Engaged people should confine their affections to those they would be willing to be seen doing in public, and which do not cause any more involuntary arousal than is absolutely necessary. (Total avoidance of involuntary arousal is not possible.)

It’s ok if the pet is friendly and you dont go against the grain. Ears back and teeth bared is a sign to not pet heavily. Is this a dog or a cat? But your future spouses pets should be used to you when you live together after marriage.

Sexual activity includes foreplay. Sexual activity is for inside a valid marriage.

I studied a Catholic guide in my teenage years which explained that petting is not an acceptable activity between the unmarried.

It may be fun for both of you but it’s difficult to know when to stop. Even if you’re successful in doing so 99 percent of the time, it only takes once to lead to a situation you’d be better avoiding until marriage. When the hormones are raging just take her bowling. 😀

Yes. It comes from lust.

Question 154. The parts of Lust
St. Thomas Aquinas Summa Theologiae
A thing is said to be a mortal works. sin in two ways. First, by reason of its species, and in this way a kiss, caress, or touch does not, of its very nature, imply a mortal sin, for it is possible to do such things without lustful pleasure, either as being the custom of one’s country, or on account of some obligation or reasonable cause. Secondly, a thing is said to be a mortal sin by reason of its cause: thus he who gives an alms, in order to lead someone into heresy, sins mortally on account of his corrupt intention. Now it has been stated above (I-II:74:8), that it is a mortal sin not only to consent to the act, but also to the delectation of a mortal sin. Wherefore since fornication is a mortal sin, and much more so the other kinds of lust, it follows that in such like sins not only consent to the act but also consent to the pleasure is a mortal sin. Consequently, when these kisses and caresses are done for this delectation, it follows that they are mortal sins, and only in this way are they said to be lustful. Therefore in so far as they are lustful, they are mortal sins."

So there are three things needed for a sin to be MORTAL - grave matter which lust is, full knowledge that it is and full consent .
