Hefeweizen - the most Catholic beer?

Those Umlaute can drive you mad… and our language has much more difficulties in store, ha ha!!
I wonder what category applies to Altbier, which is also one of my favourites.
Is it Lager or Ale?
I know Kölsch (hah, the Umlaut!) but I drink it very rarely.

It’s fun to pronounce Kolsch – keoosh.

Altbier is another one of those special German beers that falls in the Ale category.

Franziskaner goes great with Wiener Schnitzel. And for those of you English-only types who need it spelled out, that’s Germanian for Franciscan. It is a Weissbier, which I think is the same as Hefeweizen, or at least similar.
