Height in Relationships

As an extremely tall woman I always feel compelled to reply when I see these topics in forums! Growing up I was discriminated against because of my height, not allowed to play on playground equipment designed for “kids” (this happened at my 8th birthday party), and yelled at by other parents who assumed I was too old to play with their kids. I once had a neighbor boy’s father get in my face and threaten to call the police on my after I argued with his son (we were both 11).
Anyway, as an adult the biggest issues that I face are finding clothing and shoes. While there are petite and plus sized sections at most stores, there are almost no stores anywhere for me to shop, and I am forced to shop online. Long sizes at most department stores aren’t long enough!
People are constantly making comments to me as well, which can be annoying at times (although I am usually good natured about it).
I am sympathetic to short men, I think that being a very tall woman is about the equivalent to being a very short man.
For what it’s worth, I am 6’3" plus maybe half an inch.
Cheers

My responses to people who decide to inform me that I’m short have become more cynical lately. Usually I make a comment like “thank you very much for telling me what I look like, now that means I can tell you to lose a few pounds.” I have noticed that a lot of people my height and shorter tend to have a certain attitude that gives the impression that they’re very mean people. I think it’s because we try to “prove” ourselves to everybody else. I know that’s why I do it at least. I’m one of those difficult people who won’t ask or accept help from anybody. I’ll lift heavy equipment and climb up on shelves and break every safety precaution for driving by moving the seat up as far as it will go instead of using a cushion.

Height never mattered to me in relationships. I’ve always ended up with somebody who was significantly taller than me. But then again, it’s really easy for that to happen, so I don’t know that I’ll ever date someone shorter. It wouldn’t be a problem if I did, though.

I made a completely innocent, but highly embarassing remark once. Fortunately, it was only to my wife. We were at the wedding of one our friends. The lady is 5’2" and the guy is 6’4". So there is a huge height difference. Apparentely the height runs in the lady’s family. Her father is just over 5’. Shorter than his daughter. I did not know this, so at the beginning of the ceremony, the father is standing between the daughter and the her soon to husband, but to me he looked like he was kneeling, so I asked my wife why was he kneeling. Of course, she won’t let me live that down.
:bigyikes:

:rotfl:

I am 6’0" and have dated women of all sorts of heights. I think the tallest lady I dated was about 5’10". I would say that most men, whether they admit it or not, feel a little uncomfortable around a woman who is taller than he is. That is why short men tend to go for short women. Men of moderate height, like me, do not pay too much attention.

Personally, I find petite women attractive, but that is not a requirement for me.

My son is 6 feet 2 inches tall. He is dating a girl who is taller. She’s about half an inch taller than he is.

I’m 6’5". My wife is 5’5". We really only notice the difference when we see photogrpahs of ourselves.

I didn’t care about women’s height when I dated, but the tall women I dated often said they were happy to finally have to look up to kiss a guy.

At 5’9", I’m about an inch and a half taller than DH, and that’s not really a big deal. What has been a big deal for vain little me 😊 lately is that I out-weigh him by about 10 -15 lbs. My hormones have been so on edge lately (newly preggo) that just the thought of this is enough to make me want to crawl into a hole and hide… Not to mention that when i’m 8 mo. pregnant I out-weigh him by about 40 lbs. So much for dainty and feminine.

When we married, I was thin at 145 lbs, and we were right about the same weight… 6 pregnancies later, I’ve gained, and he hasn’t. 😦
Don’t feel bad I have always out weighed my hubby even when I was a size 5 when we dated in highschool(by a couple pounds back then) -how scary is that. (Yes he was very skinny guy) Since hubby quite smoking three years ago he is catching up with me. Five more pounds and we’ll be even -and I’m a long way past a size 5. 😊 . Actually I’m supposed to be losing to weight so I have hope that he’ll outweigh me finally after 19 years.

Oh hubby is is 5’9 (and a half according to him;) ) and I am 5’7. Since he is the only boyfriend I ever had I have no experience with other height differences but I probably wouldn’t be attracted to a guy that was more than a couple inches shorted than me. I definitely like that he is taller.

Why lower yourself to another person’s level? You will feel better about yourself if you keep yourself above the petty stupidity of those around you. It also helps to assume that the other person is making remarks in an innocent manner.

If you are at extremes in height, clothing will be difficult to buy. Petite clothing is often made for women a bit too plump for my stature. 🤷

I’m 5’5" and hubby is 5"11".

I actually like smaller “compact” men (think Frodo lol).

I don’t like the difference between me and a really tall guy. But the short guys with wide shoulders…sigh 😃

I noticed that short girls and tall guys are typical, too! DH’s parents are like 4’6" and 6’5" It’s hilarious!

Maybe the theory is those who are tall are fascinated by short people and vice versa?

At my brother’s wedding, I was the best man. Keep in mind, I’m 6’6". The maid of honor was only 5’1". The pictures of me escorting her after the ceremony look very funny.
