Heinlein movie

Just watched Predestination, based on RAH’s story All You Zombies, one of the best time-travel stories ever. Very good mostly faithful to the original but of course they had to expand it to turn a short story into a 100 minute film.

Yet another time travel tale that fosters the erroneous belief that one can travel from one time to another and still remain at the same point on the planets surface, when in reality the point on the planet’s surface, the planet, the star around which it moves, and the whole galaxy has moved way-the-heck somewhere else.

Might be fun to watch anyway, once I check my disbelief at the door

Exactly. Suspension of disbelief is also sometimes necessary for mysteries and even “regualar” novels.
Transporters have the same problems you mention (if you transport from NY to LA you’d have to hit the ground running at several hundred MPH due to the Earth’s rotation) and Larry Niven wrote several stories explaining how the inventor came up with technical solutions.

The difference in speed is only 86mph.

Change in latitude is the governing factor.

Still substantial, but not all that difficult to amortize, particularly if the transporter station does not itself need to move. Niven’s stepping discs present more of s challenge.

There’s certainly a lot of suspension of disbelief involved in my own novel. Starting with “I can’t believe I actually finished it.”
