Dr. Colossus:
“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and those who enter through it are many.” Matthew 7:13
Just a note. Notice the words carefully.

The gate is a gate of a path/road, that leads to destruction. It does not say it is a gate to destruction but a gate to the path of destruction…Certainly many enter through the gate of the road to destruction. But many, hopefully all, will turn back.

Maybe I am overly optimistic.

I can smell the foul burning flesh from here.

I think that you should contact your Bishop for clarification of your priest’s statements and ask when this belief of an empty hell was adopted by the church.
Steven Merten:
… Pope Benedict XIV believes that Judas Iscariot is in hell.
That’s really interesting. I thought that the church OFFICIALLY was very careful not to say that any particular person was in hell because in the final moments prior to death, God, in His mercy might have proved the graces needed for a sincere repentance.

Benedict XIV (1740-58–De Synodo dioecesana X, i) cites the anathema maranatha formulated by the Fathers of the Fourth Council of Toledo against those who were guilty of the crime of high treason: "He who dares to despise our decision, let him be stricken with anathema maranatha, i.e. may he be damned at the coming of the Lord, may he have his place with Judas Iscariot, he and his companions.

A pope damning people to hell? That doesn’t seem right. 😦
