Hellish good works!

It seems we need to keep up our good works no matter what for good works will be rewarded even in Hell.It seems the heat and the flames will be turned up or down depending on our good works and also depending on how many bad works or mortal sins unforgiven - any comments - twinc
 
No. Hell is hell.
Rather, I think your time in purgatory could be reduced.

Can you please cite a document or reading that leads you to believe this?

no,no surely not so,since if two people commit the same sin is it fair that one serves less time just cause someone prayers for them and if a protestant no one prays for them because they dont even believe there is a purgatory - so the poor protestant could be there forever - no no surely the heat and flames must also be turned up or down -twinc

Hell is the absence of God.

Who is there in Hell to reward you? I don’t think Satan is going to be passing out gold stars for good works.

I dont think Satan controls the fire of hell - meanwhile should all souls suffer equally,those with one as those with more than one mortal sin.In for a dollar as in for a dime - twinc

I don’t think God has anything to do with influencing the effects of hell.

Once again, Hell is the absence of God. God doesn’t raise the temperature in the “rapist room” while allowing coffee breaks in the “close; but no cigar” room.

It doesn’t sound fair does it?
But do you know how many people there are who pray for those who have no
one to pray for them? Sometimes you see individual people, and sometimes it’s
the whole church! Everyone knows to pray for “the least of these”! We can’t see
the people who already died, but to God, all are alive.

Focus. I love your questions, and I love to ask questions. But every day, focus on
Jesus, and do what He wants. With God, everything is fair in the end, because
everyone of us already got more than we deserve.
 
only reward you gonna get in hell is a toasted bun! repent, repent and put your trust in Jesus Christ!

If you need to find out what Catholics have been told then obviously you are not a Catholic.

There are no degrees or levels in Hell. You don’t get punished less for good behaviour.
Why won’t you answer the other poster about citing the source for your belief. You opened the thread so the onus is on you to provide the source to back up your claim and then we can discuss it.

The following from somewhere in the maze of catholic.com’s information…

Scriptural support may be found at: Matthew 16:27; 1 Corinthians 3:8; 2 Corinthians 9:6; 1 Corinthians 15:41. The punishment of the damned is proportioned to each one’s guilt.

**The Union Councils of Lyons and of Florence declared that the souls of the damned are punished with unequal punishments **. . . This is probably intended to assert not merely a specific difference in the punishment of original sin and of personal sins, but also a difference in the degree of punishment for personal sins [cf. Matt. 11:22; Luke 20:47]. . . . St. Augustine teaches “In their wretchedness the lot of some of the damned will be more tolerable than that of others. Justice demands that the punishment be commensurate with the guilt.” (Ott, Fundamentals, 482)

So, it seems your surmise had some basis after all, thanks to the info from SemperReformada

Still, it seems to me if you’re going to be just good enough to earn the “better” quarters of hell, you might as well take it a little further and avoid hell altogether 😃

This makes me wonder though, if punishment is meted out according to guilt, does this mean we are rewarded in heaven with similar consideration for how good we are on earth?

I agree. I would rather be in heaven in the servants quarters than have a luxury box in hell.

Yes, most definitely. I don’t have time to look up all the scriptural passages but yes our rewards in heaven are in part a result of how good we did on earth.
 
CCC 1035 The teaching of the Church affirms the existence of hell and its eternity. Immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into hell, where they suffer the punishments of hell, “eternal fire.” The chief punishment of hell is eternal separation from God, in whom alone man can possess the life and happiness for which he was created and for which he longs.

What’s the point in trying to discuss “levels of punishment in hell” when the worst possible punishment there is eternal separation from God which is the punishment EVERYONE in Hell is subject to.

Well, yes, but it’s not “a little further” and earning heaven, remember. It’s total surrender to God’s will by accepting the grace of the eternal sacrifice. So if you are in rebellion against that, no matter how many good works you do, you can’t receive the gift. . . .

refuse to accept any statement of the true Catholic teaching
merely restate the false premise a few times, then disappear to troll again another day
IMO troll is only one person who is very persistent and has a good imagination for screen names
