Hello from a Coptic(Eastern Catholic) Egyptian

I misspelled I am sorry. I meant to say that Pope Francis says the conflict is not religious because the Imams claim so. But I feel that it is religious and the Pope is simply trying to be a peacemaker.
I am Orthodox from Eastern Europe and we have a history of conflicts with the Muslims. I feel my charity for them is numb because of what happens in Middle East and because their leaders do not accept any responsibility for it. The Imams are known to have said “ISIS are not Muslim” and “what they do is not Islam”. But how can this be if ISIS claim that they are? I try to pray for them so they stop this violence, but I cannot. My heart is frozen towards the Muslims. I promised myself I would never read their book and no I do not believe that man of theirs was any kind of prophet.
 
Welcome Copt! I hope you will tell about the Coptic Rite and traditions of your Church. I know its very old and of St. Mark. I think it would be helpful to us are not as familiar with your Eastern Rite Catholic Church. Again welcome to CAF!
 
Coptic Orthodox rite and Coptic Catholic rite is the same one.Coptic catholic church is eastern catholic church.I dont know if Roman Catholic christians know for Eastern Catholic churches.Thanks to all brothers/sisters.

Hi Copt, I knew from what you said that you are Eastern Rite Catholic> I agree but not sure just how many Latin Rite Catholic are aware of that. I also know there is those Coptic’s who are not in union with the Church in Rome which might confuses some who are not aware of that. I have read some of your responses to others on this site and thank you for the informations you have been giving.

Hello, Copt, and welcome! I remember reading somewhere that for several centuries now Coptic is no longer spoken as a living language, now being restricted to use as a liturgical language. If that is true, then I would have expected the Coptic Catholic Church, post Vatican 2, to have switched to celebrating the Mass in Arabic instead, which is the everyday language in Egypt. What is the true situation?
 
Coptic language used only in church.Like the ancient greeks used in Greek churches.This is tradition.In church school coptic language teaching.

Another question! This Wednesday, November 22, has been designated “Red Wednesday” in some countries, including the UK (link below), in honor of the victims of the religious persecution of Christians around the world. Egypt is mentioned as one of the countries where Christians are persecuted.

Do you know whether any kind of commemoration of this date is scheduled in Egypt, even if it’s only behind closed doors?

Lutheranism is considered a newer shrewder form of iconoclasm. Alongside with this heresy, Luther also wrote many more and his despise for the cult of Saints is absolutely unacceptable and offensive in the East. Iconoclasm is an important thing in the East, especially since its appearance during Emperors Leo III and then his son Constantine Copronymos (Constantine V) - years 700s AD - created tensions between the East and the West and some consider fertilized the ground for the great Schism that happened 3 centuries later. Constantine V managed to get adepts between Orthodox priests, he used the soldiers against the monks priests or anyone who favored icons. It is said the soldiers were coming to churches with axes to remove the body of Christ from the Cross. The Cross had to be simple. The emperor had a vision in which he was sure this is what God wanted. Because of this, the Ecumenical Patriarch earned a higher role trying to convince the iconoclasts of their heresy and when the papal legates arrived from Rome at the council invoked to combat iconoclasm they felt the authority of Rome was being challenged. The tensions grew also because the Emperor was violently suppressing the cult of icons in the West also and the idea of the “bad Greek emperor” became a trend.
So I think that Ecumenism only makes historical sense in the way of suppressing iconoclasm which is now represented by the Protestants. And its presence within the Church has created only defilement.
I even read that Luther went so far as to encourage his followers to help the Turks so that they attack and destroy Rome. But I am not sure if this is accurate.
Luther’s stubbornness and self-claim of the purity of his faith is another sign he was deceived.
I don’t say that Protestants aren’t good people, do not hate them as persons and make no claim of knowing if they can be redeemed or not, that is God’s judgement not ours. But their ideas based on Luther, Calvin and the others, cannot be accepted. And they regard him as a saint and this is also unacceptable.
Many fear at the World Council of Churches the only ecumenism that happened by interacting with the Protestants is that they influenced everyone with their ideas. It’s sad when you think of the argument between Christians, but I just don’t understand where is their love and charity in relation with others? They always claim to be right, they expect apologies, what are the signs that the Holy Spirit is present in their congregations? I mean the theologians, the ones who lead the interaction, not people. People are nice, they are being lead. The Protestant leaders - where is their charity if their Luther is such a saint? Where is his spirit taking them?
 
In my university no.I dont listen anything.Coptic Catholic church is a minority in christian minority of Egypt.We dont want problems with muslims.If we celebrate this day that mean problems with muslims.
