Hi I am new to the site with a weird question to start out with lol. I was wondering if any knows of a place that sells communion wine to be shipped to the general public> I love the taste of the wine at our parish but they only sell to parishes or if any one could recomend a semi sweet wine at a grocery store that is similar.

Different parishes use different kinds of wine, so what’s used in your area may not be what’s used around here, etc. Around here, a rosé or blush wine is generally used, one that is very fruity (i.e. sweet).

I recommend going to a wine store and describing what you’re looking for. Describe the color (e.g. white, rosé, red) and the dryness/fruitiness (e.g. “very fruity, but not as much as a sherry or port”).

ask what they use in your parish and where they get it
He said the supplier only sells to parishes. Still, he could ask the style of wine-- I’m sure they’d have no problem identifying the wine as a white zinfandel or whatever.

style just says red altar wine with a chalice on the front. I looked at it it taste like a sweet rose but a darker color.

I always thought that Lambrusco (common at any store) is very close to the wine our parish uses.

I don’;t know which supplier they use, but altar wine is very popular with the Vietnamese in this area. There seems no problem in obtaining it.

You don’t actually need altar wine. You may be able to beg a sample from your parish and take it to a local wine merchant. They’ll be able to steer you to the general style of wines that you’re looking for. If there is a particular person who helps you and finds you something you’re happy with, keep going back to that person. It’s like finding a movie reviewer with the same taste in films that you have. Starting out at least, the one is all you need.

Other than that, you might want to find someone that sells Italian wines, and try a vin santo.

I checked there site… that is the wine they get at my parish
Then you might not have any trouble finding something comparable, because most of the wines are listed there by kind. So find out whether your parish uses a burgundy, haut sauterne, chablis, port, or whatever, and ask at the wine store for wine of that type. 🙂

I checked there site. For the wine it says it ships to churches or clergy only. but that is the wine they get at my parish
Yes, Cribari altar wine is what we use in my parish also. We get ours from the liquor store (run by the provincial gov’t) and the boxes are marked as only being available to parishes. Heck of a lot cheaper than getting it from a company which takes a cut of the profit.
