Hello, my name is John, and I am a Scientologist from Boston.

I would like to spread the positives of Scientology, not the preconceived misconceptions that you may have heard about it.

Also, I would like to learn about the Catholic faith, to further strengthen my belief in Scientology.
 
Hi, John.

I have a few questions that might get discussion going:
  1. What do you make of the fact that Scientology is – at its higher levels, anyway – so darned expensive of a religion? Sure, other religions have concepts of giving to charity and tithing and such, but I have heard that the cost of becoming one of the higher level OTs (that’s “operating Thetans” for those of you who don’t know the lingo) is exorbitant. What gives?
  2. What convinces you that the Scientology “auditing” process – which appears to be a form of basic therapy mixed with a primitive makeshift lie detector – is effective at accomplishing anything at all?
  3. Come on now. We’ve all heard that the mythos of Scientology – which is supposedly only revealed to high level members and kept as a secret from the low level members and the general public – is that human beings are plagued by the ghosts of dead aliens murdered by a galactic overlord aeons ago. And we all know that Scientology was invented by a pretty bad sci-fi writer.
There is, incidentally, a pretty funny video on youtube where a spokesman for the Church of Scientology – Tommy Davis, I think his name is – was asked to comment on the myth, and he walked out of the interview, claiming that “it is a violation of my religious beliefs to talk about” this story. Of course, that sure sounds like a person bound by an oath of secrecy being asked about top-secret material, doesn’t it? You would assume that if the story was bogus, he would say as much and laugh it off, no?

So, if and when you become a high level member of the Church – if you can ever afford to, I mean – and if you find out that the alien story is really taught at their higher levels…how would you react to that?
 
Scientology was founded on a bar bet. It was L. Ron Hubbard and one of his friends. He was betting he could start a religion and get many followers, his friend didn’t believe it, and then he started writing the science fiction novels known today as the books of Scientology. The levels are there to increase the amount of money they make, and of course higher levels can’t tell anything to lower levels so that the lower levels will save up to buy the next level.

Scientology has interesting ideas about human origins and can also be helpful to some people (relaxing, clearing thoughts, etc.), but it is for entertainment purposes only and is science fiction.
 
My take on it? It’s a dangerous cult. Any religion that seperates you from your family, brainwashes you into working countless hours for next to nothing, and curtailing your freedoms is a cult.
That’s why some countries (i.e. Germany) doesn’t see this scientology as a religion…

You make clear in your third sentence you’re not open to genuine debate but come with a closed mind!

As as has been pointed out by previous posters, Scientology was started as a bit of fun by a poor sci-fi writer. This is why it is swallowed by some gullible folks in Hollywood.
Steer clear of it. It is arrant garbage.

I, for one, am interested in hearing more about Scientology. Don’t be too discouraged by other members here who immediately dismissed your beliefs before even hearing what you had to say. Although some may not be open to hearing other ideas, others, such as myself, are . I think its great to hear from other viewpoints, even if we may not agree.

I have a few questions about Scientology that I have not been able to find else where and would very much like to hear what you have to say.
  1. Does Scientology have a belief in a god? Is there a specific god that Scientologists believe in, or do Scientologists believe in no gods? Or is it like Buddhism, where the question of a god is not addressed and it is up to the individuals to decide?
  2. What is the main thing that convinces you that Scientology is true? I assume that you reject most other world religions; what does Scientology have that they do not?

Christianity and Scientology are very distinctly opposite of each other in doctrine and beliefs.

Let us start very simply with our Holy Scripture Exodus 20:2-7 ;

2 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery;
3 Do not have any other gods before me.
4 You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me,
6 but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.

Scientology says it is compatible with Christianity but Christianity is clearly not compatible with Scientology . In order for me to be a faithful Christian then how can I ignore this scripture and submit myself to any other teaching other than the Word of God ?

Please enlighten me .

Personally, I find Scientology to be a Creepy, Frightening-Type Of Cult which likes to Sue Critics and Apostates into Oblivion, if not Outright Intimidate the Heck Out Of Them. They are also against everything Christianity and Holy Mother Church stands for.

But Welcome anyway. I’m eager to hear your side of the story.

You are beyond the true message of Scientology, along with other religions, which is a battle of morality.

Scientology exists because when people don’t listen to you on the merit of your teachings, they must have faith that you’re enlightened. If that’s the only way your teachings make sense, obviously your teachings aren’t that great. :rolleyes:
 
Knowledge and faith go hand and hand . Knowledge brought me to Christ and faith is why I

believe in Him . I have read the teachings of Christ and with all my heart want people to know

everything there is about Him . Indoctrination is not what I believe is the way to be a true

witness for Christ’s message of salvation . In my heart I know He want’s me to get the

message to people . Everyone has the free will to believe or not . God is the only one who

knows anyone’s heart not me . I have studied the life of L.Ron Hubbard and his teachings.

For me I just can’t see where Scientology and Christianity are able to exists together in one

person’s life . The messages are too different. While I have you here though can you

answer a question for me ? In 1947 Jack Parsons and L.Ron Hubbard were both members

of the O.T.O ( Ordo Templi Orientis ) which is the magical order of Allister Crowley . ( The

great beast 666 as he referred to himself ) In my studies I came across an audio tape

made by L.Ron Hubbard where he says :

“The magical cults of the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th centuries in the Middle East were fascinating. The only modern work that has anything to do with them is a trifle wild in spots, but is a fascinating work in itself, and that’s the work of Aleister Crowley - the late Aleister Crowley - my very good friend… He signs himself ‘the Beast,’ mark of the Beast 666…” ( L.Ron Hubbard’s 1952 Philadelphia Doctorate Course Lectures.)

As a Christian the beast as referred to in Revelations 13:17-18

And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
is the reference to the anti-Christ . This is a very sharp and diametrically opposed view

to Christianity that Mr.Hubbard had . Please let me know if I have this wrong .

One important heads-up to make one doubt scientology is that the majority of Hollywood buys into it. Usually if Hollywood buys it, IT’S out in left field. That’s my rule of thumb. But I’ve read snippets of dianetics, read about Hubbard, read about the pseudo-religion and it’s extremely unbelievable and bizarre IMO.

he cant “spread” anything. positive or negative. his very first post stated he was going to prosylatize us…must have leaped before he read the forum rules. oops! ah well. if tom cruise jumping up and down on a sofa, and trying to proselytize young folks like dakota fanning against her parents will doesnt give us a good idea what its about, i dont know what would. toms a spokesman for these folks, right? 😛

Darn it! I wanted to learn about Scientology from a Scientologist and now I can’t. Any Scientologists out there who want to discuss Scientology? I’m a scientist and I’m interested in the study of science (which is what Scientology must mean, right? I mean, going from the part “scient” and the “ology” meaning “study of”). Or is it the study of scient? Hmmm…that’s a tough one…:hmmm:
