We share 50% of our DNA with bananas. To me, DNA sequencing is like being able to see the fingerprints of our Creator. You’re looking at our similarity to other living things and saying there is no God and I am looking at the existence of DNA itself and saying, there is intelligence behind this.
Unless you are a Fundamentalist Christian, you are not required to understand Genesis as a literal explanation of Creation.
The story of the creation and fall of man is a true one, even if not written entirely according to modern literary techniques. The Catechism states, “The account of the fall in Genesis 3 uses figurative language, but affirms a primeval event, a deed that took place at the beginning of the history of man. Revelation gives us the certainty of faith that the whole of human history is marked by the original fault freely committed by our first parents” (CCC 390).

I believe in Universal Reality Parallelism as a religious belief system that is it does acknowedge the Very Likely reality of gods and goddesses but differently. Backed by scientific theories in physics and the general view of other realities in all religions URP simple would be this:
There are infinite universes, infinite parallel realities inside of each universe and therefore all possibilities from the mundane to most fantastic are all in effect.
So all faith paths are right - somewhere. For example is some alternate realities the dominant and only faith could be Mormonism, in another Jesus never existed and yet another Superman really is flying around fighting supervillians in the Justice League of America (perhaps). I do not argue for or against one being over it all just say that cannot be rules out nor can the fact no beings called gods and goddesses exist. I would say that is just Very Likely. and that will have to suffice.
So I would say worship or not worship any faith you like its all likely true somewhere.
And Christians generally believe in Heaven and Hell so you accept other realities exist outside of the physical world we see, so my views are not that odd. I know however I have my critics.

One question I’ve always wondered, and maybe someone can answer this, the OP included, but in all honesty, to atheists or agnostics, what is the point of life? Isn’t life without a meaning to it worthless? Wouldn’t you just go through life and then die, so what is the point?
I know the point of my life as a Catholic, so I’m just curious as to what an atheist/agnostic thinks on this.

Christians have no proofs.
I am an Atheist myself. I have been for about 30 years. I have engaged in many debates with Christians.
When all the talking is done, when all the preaching is done, when all the personal stories have been told.
You will not find one Christian in the 2 billion of them that will give you one shread of evidence that their god exist.
Not one.
That says alot about their religion.

The wonders of the world, the earth, the wind, the sky, the ocean, trees, wildlife and yes even the rocks all testify to the hand of our Creator God.
God left us his Love Story and it is contained in his Word, The Bible. There are many scarey things written in his book, yes, they are scarey to us and strange because we cannot understand the mind of God. Once we take the step of faith believing in Jesus Christ, then we are on our way to be taught by God’s own Holy Spirit and we grow in love and we begin to understand the depth of what God prepared for those who love him.
I was your age when I first believe on Jesus Christ as my Saviour. I had heard about him all my life but it was one night when i was 12 that I understood that I was a sinner and that Jesus willingly died for my sins on the cross. I accepted him as my Saviour then and not long after was Baptized.
I’m way older now…i have seen many friends pass from this life on this earth into the next life of eternity. Both of my parents have passed from this earthly existence into the presence of God. Because they were believers in Jesus Christ, I will see them again when I die the physical death and cross over into their realm. That is one of the amazing gifts that God has for us. His greatest gift was sending his only son to die on the cross so we might live life to the fullest.
Ancient scriptures tell us that “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
I never found peace or happiness in friends because in friends because they sometimes let me down. Nor did I find peace and happiness in acquiring things or doing things. My real peace came from knowing God, knowing He is always there, he will never leave me, nor forsake me. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.
He doesn’t mind if I’m not pretty enough or thin enough, doesn’t care if I’m rich or poor, young or old. He was there when no one else was or could be. He calmed my fears when I two serious illnesses. He helped me to forgive. I love him because he first loved me.

While I haven’t read this entire thread (these things have a tendency to get lengthy very quickly), I would like to know what you feel so disturbing about the christian God (the part of your comment I highlighted in bold).

Thank you! Its kinda hard answering 10 million christians questions, glad there is at least one other atheist on this site, and an experienced one at that.
Mostly the OT. And I think that much explains itself. But the bible in general has provoked many to do many things in gods name. Some are horrible, some not so much. But really, the true to heart Christians scare me. If I was to go to high school and say I am an atheist I would be beaten up on a daily basis. Some Christians are brutal. Being an atheist in the bible belt is not safe.Welcome aboard, Annabea.

My parents would give me a one sided answer. My question, Why? Why would someone bother to create something so large and complicated and who would create this someone? Why would this someone leave only a book behind? Surely he could come up with something more practical? So that we are not killing and fighting wars because we are not sure of what the true religion is?

Well, people have used the Bible to justify horrible things, but isn’t the fault of the Bible. More specifics here would help as well.
I’m sorry to hear that, but true Christians are not thugs roaming the hallways dispensing what they believe to be justice via physical means. I don’t care what they call themselves, they are attempting to excuse their actions by hiding behind a religion that not only condemns their actions but exposes them for what they are.

Those “true to heart christians” who are brutal are mentally ill…just using God as an excuse…I am a true believer, I am not violent and if people don’t want to believe, too bad for them, I don’t need to “explain” my belief in Jesus…He is a part of my my life and I feel sorry for anyone who doesn’t have Jesus in their life, because it is a wonderful feeling…I would never go on an atheist website, why do atheists try to make us not believe?..it is an insult…Believe or don’t believe in what you want but please leave us believers alone to worship Jesus…

Hi Annabea , Although I’m a lot older than you it doesn’t seem so long ago when I was your age. At 12 years old its easy to see faults in your parents.
I saw lots of faults in mine.
Now they’re gone , I thank God for them and I wouldn’t swap them for anyone else.
I hope to meet them again when its my turn to go.
Also to meet again my dear friends who have passed on.
Last and not least to see in Person the Saviour that I love .
Christianity is the religion of hope and the future .
Don’t throw it away for FUTILITY of a narrow existence centred on self and dependant on the affirmation of friends
