Hello,
I’m a “cradle catholic” from a pre-VII parochial school childhood. I was not too happy with the Novus Ordo but was too young to separate theological issues from raging puberty, and so as soon as I turned 18 I joined the mass exodus into the wilderness and spent some years in the Church-Of-The-Month-Club. Now I am back, happy to find that the original is still around and is still the best. 🙂
 
Welcome back!!! you’re learn a lot from the folks on this board 🙂 It will bring you back to your school days that’s for sure 🙂

I’ve gotten so much information from this site: great book recommendations, study bible recommendations, links, and all sorts of stuff. Some topics are old and worn of course, but some topics I haven’t seen in years. I hope you enjoy the forum!
 
Please be happy to know that there are a number of us on this forum who grew up in the pre-Vatican II church and who stayed with HMC all of these years. The original is still around and there are enough of us who would be more than happy to answer your questions and respond to your concerns.

Glad to hear that you are back in the Church and look forward to reading your posts.

And, by the way, HMC stands for Holy Mother Church.

Well, you know, everytime I was pushed to reject a Catholic doctrine while among the protestants, I did not reject it but simply set it aside while sticking to the common elements of the faith, and when that became a problem I stayed home but maintained a private prayer-life.

During the couple of years that my parents died, (both devout), I re-examined my relationship to the Lord and to Our Blessed Mother and, interestingly enough, without having any awareness of what was going on with sedevacants, etc. I came to the conclusion that the only obstacle I had was the requirement to be obedient to the Pope.

I struggled with that, because unlike sedevacantists, I always knew that I could not return to the Church if I was not willing to be obedient to Papal authority, and that really was why I left. I could not accept what was being done to us common Catholics back in Sixties.

So, finally I called the local priest up and told him how I felt and said I wanted to return but would I have to be obedient to the Pope? and he heaved a big sigh and said that I could not reject the Pope and hope to be in Communion with the Church.

So after praying about it for a few months I decided I would be obedient to Papal authority but would place it before the Lord that I just did not understand Papal authority. Then I made a good confession and began practicing my faith again.

The Holy Spirit then put my education in Papal authority on a fast track and now I have no problem whatsoever being able to include the Pope in my devotions and being able to be an obedient Catholic.
 
I see the Holy Ghost imparted His gift of Wisdom to you, littlequestion. In doing so, He saved you from a lot of unnecessary confusion and suffering.

Don’t forget to thank Him.

How do you now feel about the Novus Ordo Mass?

I feel very blessed to be in a parish that has a weekly TLM so that I can now completely avoid N-O services… I always have attended N-O if it did not go too far afield, but I would make an initial visit to a Mass by sitting in the back so that I could leave as soon as too much sacrilege was introduced.

You know, God really does answer prayer. I was going way out of my way to get to a conservative N-O once in awhile and then when I found this apartment I actually had signed a lease for a different one but then the landlord called me up and said it would not be ready and mentioned this unadvertised building. This apartment not only is less expensive than the one I was going to take, and in a much better quieter neighborhood (for me), but it is a 10-minute bus ride, with no connections, to the parish that has the TLM Mass every Sunday!

When someone online told me they knew about this Mass I thought it was just a special holiday event, and then when I went I discovered it is the regular Sunday Mass. I felt like Jesus leaned down and hugged me! 🙂

I thank him every day. I feel sane again! (No Catholic who was raised completely within the parochial community as I was can feel sane in the protestant/secular world. After that youthful exhiliration of adventure, it was hell.)

Thank you for sharing this. You are definitely lucky! I’ve never heard of a bus going 10 minutes without stopping. 😉
