We know that hell was created for the devil and his angels, but when did it in fact come into existence, during the first day of creation or immediately after the Satan’s “Non serviam”?
Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the revealed things belong to us and to our children forever, to observe all the words of this law.
We know that hell was created for the devil and his angels, but when did it in fact come into existence, during the first day of creation or immediately after the Satan’s “Non serviam”?
Catechism 1033 has that hell is “[the] state of definitive self-exclusion from communion with God and the blessed."
Hell is a state and the immaterial fallen angels are in that state since choosing. When the angels were created and chose is not defined by the Church, but the more common teaching of theologians is that the angels were created at the same time as the visible universe.
Right. What makes hell what it is…is “self-exclusion from communion with God”. He’s our purpose, our beatitude/happiness, the inexhaustible source of any and all goodness that we innately desire. Man is allowed to participate in achieving his own purpose-or not.
Pride is and has always been the main obstacle to our choosing God over anything else, beginning with ourselves.
