Okay, this is the first I have posted in this forum. I am not catholic but was raised catholic. Now, I am Ev. Lutheran. My mother is however Catholic. Long story short, my mother has some very serious mental problems and has caused me great amounts of pain through out my life. She basicly cant stand me and never has.

Several years ago, she went to Rome to see the pope. She returned with many things and she gave my daughters some braclets that were supposedly blessed by the pope. After several innocents happened to me at her hands, and with the advice of my pastor, the police and social workers, I obtained a restraining order on her and my brother who is in prison alot.

She is very mad that I adopted my brothers daughter and will not allow him to see her because he is on drugs. So, since then, about 2 years now, my life is becoming misserable.

My home is in bankruptcy to keep the foreclosure from going forward, I lost my job, my husband lost his job, we both have had to be retrained to do things we never did before, my health has turned bad and its one thing after another that is making my life so hard.

This morning when I was showering, I was thinking of all my problems and looked down on my wrist. I was wearing the braclet she gave my daughter. And all of a sudden I started remembering things my dad and aunts had told me about my mom having Voo Doo dolls and stuff. And I got scarred. I tried to shake it off. so, I went on my computer and found out that my mortgage payment had just bounced because of something I was not expecting now I am short 500.00 for the mortgage and if its not paid right away, we go back into forclosure. Then, my hubby called me from the DMV and the trucking license he has been trying to get for a new job is now delayed because his birth certificate from another state is not certified and we have to get one certified, and to top it off. He just got a ticket this morning for our city sticker expiring YESTERDAY!!!

I dont know how much more bad luck I can take. It has been like this for two years and I thought that God would help us because we have four kids , TWO we adopted trying to do the right thing and get them out of foster care.

Now, I am thinking, Maybe she has put a curse on me. The sister at the convent that I go to for my daughters clothes told me that it is possible and I should just keep praying and God will help. But, I am getting desperate. Can my mom have put a curse on me? Should I just keep praying or should I be doing something else as well… Thanks for any advise you can give me…

Dear Blind-Love,

I wanted to reply to you because my mother’s relationship with me is similar to yours, not the voodo and curses but the mental illness and the rejection for no reason since my birth. I have no contact with my parents even though they live within driving distance. One sibling and I have a good relationship, the other won’t communicate with my family because he doesn’t want to “get in trouble” with our parents.

I wonder why ,since your mother behaves in such a risky way toward you, why your children have contact with her ? I also wonder if you are in counseling in order to get a steady stream of good advice to help you build /rebuild your life after the damage she has caused.

As far as the curses, voodoo etc. People certainly can enlist satan and his minions against you. Now, if you were Catholic, I would say , speak to your parish priest and ask him for blessings, prayers, etc. Also get holy water frm the Church and sprinkle it around your home. Pray the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel.

Now , the many others on this Forum who are experienced in this can give you full and complete advice on how to handle this. This is all I know.

Do not give up Hope,
" And during the forth watch of the night , he came toward them, walking on the sea. When the diciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. “it is a ghost,” they said, they cried out in fear. At once Jesus spoke to them, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid."

I wasn’t up to date on what MariaTheresa posted, so I learned something there. I really admire you and your family for persevering through these trials. Keep praying, and give these trials your best efforts, and good luck to you.

Dear “Blind Love”… Let me start by saying this. If you were Baptized a Catholic… you are STILL a Catholic. Even if you are not practicing, and now attend a Lutheran church. This seems to be a common “misunderstanding” of many people, who no longer practice the Catholic faith. (I’m not saying that Baptism in other Christian traditions, is invalid. I’m only saying, that if you were Baptized a Catholic… you are a Catholic; even if you go to another church).

I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing these difficulties in your life. God bless you and give you peace and strength. :hug1: But, to “fear” that these things are happening in connection with items brought back from Rome by your Catholic mother (and blessed by the Holy Father, the Pope) is, in my opinion… superstitious.

First of all, IF your mother is practicing “voo doo”… or anything connected with the occult… then she is going AGAINST the Catholic Church. The Church warns us, and strictly forbids us… against participating in such activities. I hope your mother knows that. If she doesn’t, someone had better tell her.

If it makes you feel better, though… get rid of the items in question (bracelets, etc.). I think the advise to go and talk to a Catholic priest is good, too. And, pray for your mother and other family members. The problems which you describe… are serious, yes. But I think that many people could probably relate. Life is fraught with difficulties, that’s for certain. (I could write a BOOK! 🤷 ). Ask Our dear Lord for His guidance, and light. Tell Him your troubles… and place your trust in Him.

I will keep you in my prayers. May God bless you.

I doubt that your mother has the capability to put a curse on you, but I would take off the bracelet since it is making you uncomfortable.
Why don’t you go get some holy water from your local Catholic Church and sprinkle it around your house? You never know.

Blind Love, Shalom! I will keep you and your family in my prayers. It could be that it’s not a curse put on you by your mother, but the Evil One recognizing your vulnerability at this time and taking advantage of it.

Try reading these two recent entries on Mark Mallett’s blog: Finding Joy, and Losing Fear. They may give you the inspiration you need to get through these trials.

Blind_Love, yes people can put curses on you, and there is help for that.

I recommend visiting the St. Pio Center for Deliverance Counseling. They deal with this type of thing frequently.

You can find spiritual warfare prayers against curses, plus advice in the help section. There is also an online spiritual warfare forum and Q&A where you can ask questions and get good answers.

Praying for you and your family. :signofcross:

yes, people can put curses on you. do you believe in the evil eye? it is very real, but there are prayers to break these spells. When when one feels “overlooked” by the evil eye they should ask someone to “pass” them. Various nationalities believe in this including the Irish and Italians.

I can’t tell you much about curses, but I can tell you that Jesus is stronger than any evil. So I think that you shouldn’t waste any more time trying to figure out if she has put a curse on you and spend more time getting to know the Lord. The Divine Mercy devotion is beautiful and can help you with this. Whenever you feel overwelmed, just say “Jesus, I trust in You”. Also a little bible reading will make you feel better.

I’ll be praying for you. 🙂

Hi. The thing is - a good exorcist will be able to tell quite quickly whether you should be worried or not. Call your diocese and ask for an exorcist. Then call him up and tell your story briefly.
Don’t get rid of the stuff you fear might be cursed - just yet. Get them out of your house but don’t flush them down the toilet or throw them in the trash. Let the exorcist advice you about what to do with them.

yes, people can put curses on you. do you believe in the evil eye?
I don’t think the Catholic Church teaches anything about the reality of curses on people.

Seems the Catechism acknowledges that such a thing exists:
2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one’s service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another’s credulity.
Father Gabriele Amorth, the exorcist of Rome, says in his books that most of the cases of possession that he deals with are the results of sorcery and curses.

Of course this reality exists!!! What do you think spiritual warfare is all about? In reading Father Amorth’s books I’m completely convinced that people can and will use the devices of the devil to hurt other people! He also expresses his sadness that many people, including priests, don’t believe this happens, leaving those suffering without help/recourse except what they can do on their own.

Now, this doesn’t mean that you should be ruled by or your life dictated by what others can do to you, that gives them and the devil all the power. Every little negative thing that happens to you should not automatically be attributed to a curse/hex, so a person must be very cautious and seek the help/advice of a priest/exorcist.

Yes people can put a curse on you.

My wife’s family had many problems like that.

A pastor of a Catholic church said prayers for them and discovered that someone had cursed them with black magic.

This priest has permission from the bishop to perform exorcisms. He told the family to come to the church. They did that and the priest prayed with them for 3 hours to remove the evil that had cursed them.
