Help! Can't remember Thomas Merton book

A friend and I were just talking about the passage where Jesus tells the man at the gate “I never knew you.” I remember Thomas Merton wrote a beautiful meditation on this passage, about how we turn from God and to the world so much, that God doesn’t even recognize who we’ve become from who we were meant to be. I can’t for the life of me remember where I read this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
