Okay, I can barely even read the Bible anymore without having the uncomfortable feeling of being watched. It just makes me feel uneasey, and disturbing images of demonic figures move through my head while this is going on. Right now I am so upset, tense, and anxious while yping this, i think i may have a panic attack or something. I cant stop looking over my shoulder and I had to stop listening to my i-Pod because for some reason it was disturbing me and making me even more restless. It is getting to the point of where looking at my statue of the Blessed Virgin is starting to send shivers down my spine. I have no problems while praying; in fact, instead of reading the Bible now I pray much more without a rosary or anything.

And I cannot even bear to think of any kind of thing even remotly dealing with Satanism. If i think of a red pentagram with candles around it I start to feel faint. In a video game I was palyign called Indigo Prophecy that happened and I had to quit because I was hyperventalating because the guy had walked into his apartment, trashed and with a pentagram in it.

It is really wierd, do you think I should talk to a priest?? Can you guys help me out? Why is this happening to me? Is there any way I can get over it?

I will certainly pray for you! So you have one guy in your corner. (Well, of course there is Jesus and Mary and the Saints, but you get my drift.)

I suppose it is possible you have a diabolic obsession, but I am absolutely no authority on such. There is this site:stmichael.pair.com/index.htm that talks about various demonic activity and recommends a deliverance prayer.

God bless,

Scott

Id like to offer you two ideas.
-First, you have nothing to fear from Satan, he has no power except that which God has allowed him. I believe it was St. Catherine who awoke one night to see the devil at the foot of her bed, and she responded, oh its only you, and she went back to sleep.
-I would suggest daily mass, receiving the Eucharist. Along with weekly confession if possible. Satan will try with all his strength to stop you from this, but if you persevere he will run away like the big bully who has just seen the much bigger body guard coming to defend the helpless.

I-pod, video games, an avid coffee drinker… hmmm. You might start out trying a retreat from all these stimulants to see if that helps. Live a little more like a monk for a while. :yup: 🙂 Pray for peace and solace.

If that doesn’t help, there’s no reason you couldn’t talk with a priest. That’s part of their vocation. Don’t rule out physical issues. A doctor might also be able to tell you if you have a condition that is being aggravated by your “stimulants”.

I will warn you now, alot of priests are very closed to any spiritual warfare. I did not go through the whole website posted earlier, but i can give you a little bit of advice. as mentioned before, the devil has no power over you if you are on good terms with God. In the name of Jesus Christ, we have authority over demons and evil things. when you start feeling bad, just say (volume dependant on the environment, but always with confidence): “In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour, i Command any evil thing to depart from me. I wash myself with the Blood of Jesus, and claim myself bought. Amen.” That will basically make anything leave you alone…as you study more and pray more, you will grow more confident, and konw what to do on your own. we have full authority given by Jesus, dont be scared to use it. Blessings and Prayers my friend;

Hey Chaze,

I’m not saying this is the problem, but do you see a doctor regularly and has your mood been good lately? I say this because I actually thought I saw a demon in our home once, when I was clinically depressed and needed medication. The hallucination/imagining was an anxiety response to things going on in my life at the time. Depression and anxiety often go hand-in-hand, and both can be very treatable. I’m not trying to alarm you or poo-poo other posters advice, just take notice of how you feel and what your body might be telling you.

Prayer will help no matter what. I am praying for you!

Just to add to what has already been posted above. Why haven’t you consulted a mental health professional?

Dont instantly rule out the spiritual. yes, medicine is tehre for a reason, but God also shows us the supernatural side of things so we must not completely rely on doctors

I was not attempting to rule out the spiritual in any way. I offered a suggestion that the OP might choose to follow as well as the other suggestions made here. Don’t rule out the medical, or any other plausible possibility, until that avenue has been explored.

i am almost 90% sure I have Manic Depression (BiPolar Disorder). I looked up the symptoms one night (because I heard of it but never knew what it was about) And the symptons perfectly described me. I am either in the best mood on Earth or in a really sucky mood and i feel like i hate everything and everything hates me. WHen Im in a good mood nothing can make me upset and I think about how fortunate I am to have a nice family, house, friends, and all around my life seems incredible.

I tried to tell my parents but i didn’t know how to tell them.

Well, if you have that condition, I think there are good treatments. If you can, get a referral from a Catholic agency for a Catholic mental health professional for their evaluation and opinion. I’ve heard of links for such referrals on the web, but I can’t find it right now.

Anyone have a link or two? I’ll keep you in prayer.

DeFide’s advice is good. And you don’t just have to see a mental health professional, any doctor can give you a start by having you answer a few simple screening questions.

It’s nothing to be ashamed of! A large, large percentage of the population has depression issues at some point in their lives. Please tell your family if you suspect this. Depression and bipolar disorder are usually CHEMICAL imbalances, not a personal weakness or anything you’ve done wrong. They are usually easy to treat with medication and/or talk therapy.

If you cannot tell your family yet, please at least see a doctor, it is confidential. An easy way is just to say “Folks, I think I need to see a doctor, I don’t feel very well”. They love you and want to help.

Mood swings and highs/lows are not necessarily bipolar, either, so it’s important not to self-diagnose. My depression included days where everything was awesome and the birds were singing my name, followed by bad days.

And yes, prayer helps everything, but God also gave us professionals and parents to lean on in times of need.

There’s a book called “Deliverance from Evil Spirits” by MacNutt that I bought for a buck or two at Ollie’s. You oughta try and get yourself a copy.

Dear Topic Creator,

I know how you feel. I have the same issue as you, only I think mine is not as severe. I can read the Bible fine and such, but I am pretty paranoid about demons and being watched by them and such. Sometimes I can’t sleep because of it. My own sins are probably to blame for this.

that is not how a diagnosis of a mental or physical illness is made. If you feel you have anything of that nature the first step is your family doctor, who will refer you to a specialist if necessary. If you are still living at home with your parents you must tell them what you are feeling and experiencing, now, today, turn off the computer and talk to them.

all the great spiritual writers will say that depression and mental afflictions, as well as physical illness and pain must be dealt with because they are barriers to spiritual growth, and that is your experience as you report it.

not every spiritual or mental affliction is demonic in origin so you go the medical route first. by all means tend to your spiritual health at the same time. an orthodox priest or spiritual director will also tell you that the first thing you do when afflicted with thoughts of this nature, visions of demons, fears etc. is to examine your life and remove all evil influences. That includes computer games, music, TV, drugs, etc. as well as more obvious things like tarot cards and other occult activities, books, devices.

Hi Corey, dump the ipod games and maybe music because it sounds like you are giving the devil a foothold in your life.

Look around the house for occultic items and get rid of them.

Play praise music only to draw towards God. Pray, while the praise music is playing then read your bible.

Go to a medical doctor, psychologist and pastor for coucil.

James 4:7
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Ask yourself is that music encouraging sin or praising God?

Do that. Get a priest to bless your house. You can also contact your local bishop and see about getting an exocist to pay you a visit. But more than likely, you’re suffering from scrupulosity, the religious manifestation of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or thoughts that don’t go away. The Church takes care of both supernatural and mental problems of its sheep.

Thoughts That Will Not Go Away

Your best bet is to seek guidance from a priest. I don’t think either the video game or I-Pod is at fault, otherwise, demons would going after anyone playing Super Mario Brothers or listening to N’Synch. I did talk to my priest once and ask him if it was wrong to watch movies about vampires. He said so long as I didn’t go around drinking blook myself, it wouldn’t a problem. But, we both might be wrong.
