Help Cheating in school

I know that cheating in schools during exams are sinful.
Since I have good grades my classmates often want that I help them during exams which I did many times. Was that sinful?

Essentially what you are asking - is it sinful to assist in another person’s sin.

Certainly can be, depends on variables, like if you were tricked, probably not.

So the answer is - maybe.

Only you, with the help of a priest, could determine severity and necessity to confess. If talking to a priest about it anyway, the meeting would probably include a confession.

Where if repentance comes with an honest heart, absolution will be given for ALL of your sins.

And you can close the case.

Right. Helping others cheat is cheating, even if you’re not the person benefiting. In addition to sinfulness, that could very well lead to severe academic consequences including expulsion. Your school probably has a code of conduct that defines cheating and other academic dishonesty. I would not risk it in the future.

If your friends want help so badly, start a study group. People can cram for tests, or they can study all the time so they don’t have trouble in the first place.

But cheating is not only wrong, it doesn’t help people learn the material.

Plagiarism is cheating. Those are not your words. Don’t turn them in as if they were. Cut-and-paste from the Internet is plagiarism, by the way, unless you wrote the original article.

Talking during tests is cheating, if you’re sharing answers. Otherwise, it’s just disturbing others who are trying to take the test honestly.

Reading someone else’s test paper is cheating. Letting someone else read your test paper is cheating. Use a privacy screen next time. They are easily made from two file folders.

Tests are tests. For a reason. You are being honest, with yourself, about what you know and don’t know.

Was the matter serious, like college admission or the SAT? Discuss with your pastor. Break the habit now. Study hard. Work hard. Prayers for you.
