A very good friend of mine who is a Jehovah’s Witness, with whom I frequently have fruitful discussions of morality and religion with, has invited me to attend a JW conference this weekend. In the past, she’s given me many books and pamphlets about JW beliefs (all of which have–praise God–only served to bolster my faith in the Catholic Church. However, I think it’s about time I begin introducing her to Catholic theology, and I could use a little advice, especially if you’ve talked with JW’s before yourself or if you’ve ever attended any of their events.
- What kind of questions can I ask her to get her thinking and questioning her beliefs?
- What JW beliefs are easiest to debunk and/or which ought to be addressed first?
- How can I introduce Catholic thought to her effectively?
- What kind of stereotypes and misbeliefs do JW’s usually have about Catholics?
- What resources should I point her to so she can get more answers?
- Are there any books you know of answering JW beliefs from a Catholic perspective? (She’s not especially web-savvy, so I’d rather not send her to a website if I can avoid it.)
