I was born in 1976, and want to know what the difference is from then to now, concerning the church. I consider myself a very faithful man. Like everyone, I have had trials. I have failed more than I have succeeded if you ask me. I may be hard on myself, but I fear that I have re-instilled the negative far too long, by not having the courage to do what is right, and now that I try I… I don’t know . Is there some book, or anything that can be read to help me to see the changes. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I wish there was a single book that could capture it all… there is so much…

We have so much ignorance because of what happened… so many essential things to the spiritual life… so many important things…

All I can say is listen to some of the sermons below and read the writings of the saints! They will help! They will! 🙂

The essentail teaching of the Church required for salvation have not changed.

The Ten Commandments have not been repealed. Sin is still sin. The sacraments are still the means by which God’s sanctifying grace is applied to the members of Christ’s body which is the Church. Mary is still the perfecct example of obedience and faithfulness to Christ. Church architecture has changed. Liturgical styles have changed for better or worse, but the Eucharist is still the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Could you be more specific about what you are looking for? If I may, you seem to be struggling with something. May I be bold enough to ask if there is there is something in your life which you need to address? No need to answer… If you are looking for some change in the Church to diminish what you are struggling with, I wouldn’t look too hard. It’s not going to happen. The Church does not change its teaching on right and wrong based on how we act so that we can feel better. We leave that up to other Churches.

Dude, I made a confession after 37 years and then God began to straighten my life out for me in ways that I could not do for myself. Big ways. After three years, I am a completely different person. People notice it too - it’s just that radical. God can do it if you let him.

Dunno really what else to tell ya except maybe a long talk with a priest and that I’ll pray for ya.

A confession after all that time! Very moving Tim! Deo gratias et Mariae semper Virgini! The angels and saints rejoice!

Seek and ye shall find! Step by step! 😃

I’m also a revert to the Church & I’d suggest:

and the Cliff Notes or Compendium to the CCC (written by Pope Benedict) : amazon.com/gp/product/1574557203/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=0879739762&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1R2S66Y6HKVW8V2FZQWX

Two priests wrote this book: Catholicism for Dummies

Sitting in on the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) was also very helpful to me.

If you have DISH or Cable, check out EWTN on Dish Channel 261.

EWTN programming is also available online on Youtube at

I just want to give all of you my gratitude. I want to learn the churches teachings so that I can conform to them not the other way around, I do not want to put myself further down a road I did not want to go down in the first place. I want to reaffirm that which I have done correctly and amend that which has been and is against my faith, The Catholic Faith, not protestand, not Lutheran, not any non sacramental Christian beliefs, The Catholic Faith.

Shin gave excellent advise when he said to listen to good sermons. And Shin has two very good links to sermons on the bottom of his posts. Follow the link to Sensus Traditionis and Audio Sancto and you will find some of the best sermons that are available.

All the Church teachings are summarised in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

If you prefer the teachings in question and answer format then read the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
