I’m fairly new to the Catholic CHurch. Although I was baptized Catholic…found out in my late teens or early twenties…I was adopted out of the faith and not raised in any religion.

I am just about to start the RCIA classes and am only in the inquiry stage…I go to mass every day, because I need to and am not able to receive the Eucharist, which I totally am ok with.

…since, by the grace of GOd I began believing that Jesus was the son Of God who died for my sins…I have been slowly letting my old self die to make room for Jesus…all this has been good, but my question is this…

I feel the need to confess my sins…my problem is I am a perfectionist and feel I wont get it right and I’ll forget to mention sins or hold back because of embarrassment etc etc

Also, I read many resources on how to do a confession, and what constitutes a sin and I have already gone once and it went ok…luckily my priest helped me through it…but how do I simplify it…I dont want to wait until I decide to become a member of the RC church to confess again but I am afraid if I do it wrong…I’ll make it worse.

Any advice is appreciated. Please dont recommend any long books on the subject as I have trouble with my memory…and learn best from short and to the point stuff.

By virtue of your baptism in the Catholic Church, you are already a member.

I would say if you walked in there and recited every single thing when you go thats a little bit tedius.
Maybe something along the lines of “I have talked behind my friends backs”, “I disobyed my parents”, “I sometimes question my faith”… etc

If something is really deep in your heart getting to you, it may be important for you to tell that specific sin. I hope this helps!

Relax.

Participate in your parish RCIA. Bring this concern up there. Peace and best wishes.

Although you should definitely continue with RCIA and learning about the faith, Cluny is right. You became Catholic by virtue of your baptism in the Catholic Church. My understanding is that you can receive the Eucharist once you understand that it is the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ and are properly disposed to receive it (meaning, you are not conscious of mortal sin on your soul). So all you would need to do really, is to go to confession and continue attending Mass. You may want to double check with your priest about this.

As for Confession, it is intended to bring peace, not scruples. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you make a sincere confession. Tell Him that you will rely on Him to help you prepare and will trust Him that you are truly forgiven when the priest says, “I absolve you of your sins.” Afterwards, if you start to feel like you forgot something or should’ve said something differently, remind yourself how you had committed the experience to the Holy Spirit and you were under his guidance in the confessional. Then be at peace.

God bless.

Since you are no longer a child, you should not receive the Eucharist until you are Confirmed.
