=I thirst 4 YOU!;4989368]What is the Christology of Jesus Christ and the Church?
I’m not quite sure that I understand where you are heading with this line of thought, so I will make my responce brief.
Who, what and why Christ?
Who is Christ
Luke ch.1: "26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” And Mary said to the angel, “How shall this be, since I have no husband?” ** And the angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God**”
Christ is the very Son of God, and is Himself God!
What is Christ?
Christ is the Son of God our Creator
Christ is for SURE our Redeemer, and if we cooperate with Him, can be our Savior!
Luke 2: 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. And the angel said to them, "
Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."
The prefigurement of the Church in Christ?
Why Christ?
Because Christ is God, His mission was to Redeem sinful humanity, God took on a human Nature, becomming and being at the same time “True God and True Man” in order to make salvation possible by offering Himself as both God and Man, for the sins of Adam and Eve, which for a time closed access to heaven. (Paradise.)
This Jesus did is the greatest manifesitation of Love known to humanity, by dying on the Cross for us. We know this as God’s act of Redemtive Love.
Of God, By God and for God!
How does the Church symbolize Christ? What is the Christology of that?
This statement of the Sacrifice of God, by God, and for God, continues today as we obey His Command to "Do this in memory of Me.
Lk. 22: " 17 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves; for I tell you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you.
Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after supper, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.
Mk. 14: "22 And as they were eating, he took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” 23 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it.And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many”
Jn. 6: "52 "The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” So Jesus said to them,
"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ** For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.** As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me.
So the relationship between Christ and His Church is that Christ remains present, really and truly present in His Catholic Church!
Secondly Christ remains Present in and through His Church through the Seven sacraments that he, Christ instituded while here on earth. (the first time).
Third Christ in a very real sense **Is the Catholic Church inso far as Christ Redeemtive Mission and the Mission of His Church are one and same.
** Mt. 16:17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. ** I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”/**COLOR]
**So Christs Redemption act even for those who may not be Catholic, is tied mysteriously to the ONLY Church that He founded! **
Finally because there is BUT ONE God, with three seperate, yet unable to be seperated Persons (One Shared Nature -Three Divine Persons), The Third person of the Blessed Trinity; God Himself, stays ever present in His Church to guide and guard Her.
John
16: "7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.And when he comes, he will convince the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment****
12 “I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. ** When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak**, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you”.
