I think you are going down a dangerous path if you start to talk about history- at the time of Luther, the Catholic Church had some pretty shocking goings on.

Concentrate on the here and now- the Catholic Church has the best prayers, liturgies, strongest charities, most devout religious orders, best theologians, philosophers, etc.

Yes. That’s why I don’t try to deny anything. I fully acknowledge the Church has behaved poorly – even recently – in an organization way in addition to just a few random sins by individuals. The question you’re bringing is that it has all the resources available. I see the physical Church as a tough exterior with a gooey loving center. In the cloisters and monasteries we carry on the traditions of and continue to develop mystical theology, and the parish priests, the bishops, real estate, lawyers, etc. is its “hard shell.” So it’s like a crab shell; watch out it may hurt you if you don’t behave properly, but if you can get inside it’s a feast on pure spiritual food, not “crab milk.”

Very wise advice. Once we start pointing fingers, it never ends–regarding Protestant or Catholic history.

I agree. We must “concentrate on the here and now,” forgiving all past transgressions, as we are called to do by our Lord.
 
I never thought this post would go 13 pages so far. This is amazing. I am trying to find my faith and I just do not know where to go. I am in medical school and am a single father of 2 kids.
