Anything positive they you can do to take your mind off of it will help. I’ve been in some very dark places in my life, but luckily not with addiction as of yet. I wish you the best.

Forgive me for getting person here, but as a former user who has struggled to stay clean for 3 years, I remember how strong the beast is. Have you figured out why you use? I know its a very personal question and not one that you need to answer here. If you are able to find the root of why you use, you will have more power over it. It still wont make it “a walk in the park”, but the devil wants things to always remain hidden. If you can find a root of why you think you use, whether its to cope with loss, cope with anxiety, cope with depression, cope with unhappiness, cope with shame or guilt over a sin or weakness. You have said that your wife is sick… That must be a cross, not just for her, but for you. Make sure you forgive yourself for any times you feel weak and act on it. Constantly return and run to the Lord. My prayers, just as everyone else’s here, are with you my friend!

I wish I could like this post a hundred times.
This is exactly what addiction is about. Yes, it is a chemical, physical thing, but people need to figure out what causes them to self medicate if they ever want to be free of the drug of choice.

I feel much better now than I did this morning…

I haven’t had a morning like this in a long time, it was bad. But I made it without using, and I am sure I’ve been strengthened in my resolve not only by your prayers but all your gracious words as well.
If there is a bright side of craving and feeling hopeless about addiction, it is that the craving and the feelings pass.

But you are right, it is a wake up call that you need more support than you have been getting.
I’ve been on Methadone since 2013…

I’m tapering down and my dose is getting quite low, around 10mg/day now. Which may explain the increased cravings, to a degree.
Definitely. I m glad you are taking the brave route to get off that terrible stuff.
However, I mainly attribute these cravings to the time of the year more than anything else. I have had significant relapses during the month of May every year since 2009… Here’s hoping for the first sober May this decade! So far so good.
This is very common, and is usually connected to painful anniversary events. You will probably need extra support during May for some time. Part of it is unresolved grief from events that occurrred, and it is healthy to allow the grief process to work itself through.
What happens in May?

I have no idea, there’s no anniversary or anything triggering me…

Maybe just the change in seasons…
It is possible your body is remembering something your mind does not.

Praying for you, brother.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on your servant!
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for your son who’s struggling with addiction!

Sounds like you’re not getting the ongoing therapy and support you need. It’s hard to fight addiction alone.

Praying for you,Spyridon, and to your Guardian Angel.:pray:t2: and that Mary holds you beneath Her Mantle all day long.

Have you been on a methadone type program at all or did you go cold turkey, mate. .?

It seems you are still a drug user and have not quit. I cannot say I know what you are doing, or offer much more than prayers.
But my strong suggestion is that you get into a program. I don’t know what programs are available but they say the best progress are the ones that last at least a year not just one or two months. I hope that you find a resource out there. I’m sure we all will keep praying for you

I’m not sure what you mean by that, but being prescribed methadone is not equivalent to usage.

MAT - Medication Assisted Therapy - is the gold standard in treating opioid addiction.

Don’t do it. I pray you find help and strength from God and also from people. You can fight the demon by not feeding it. Let it burn. You’ve been successful so far and now it’s back to tempt you.
🙏🙏🙏
May God protect you and any saint who knows how to help with this.

I usually never pray all day for someone - that was a first - lol
His mercies are new every morning !
I hate to rely on anything ( drugs or booze or whatever - )
I try only - to rely on God / church / etc.
Keep that - number one - and everything else - a distant second 😎

Give thanks to God for hearing your intercessions…

Shortly after I posted this and the Church Militant started praying for me, the temptations ceased. And I was in no way able to pray for myself.

And now this morning I feel great… It’s now the 9th of May and I haven’t used yet. God please let this be the first May of the decade where I remain steadfastly sober!

FrancisPio,
To be on Methadone, an Addict has to be in a program. Once an addict , always an addict. Same with alcoholics. Either on the wagon, or off it.
Methadone has helped so many people. Spyridon has been on a program since 2013. To his credit.

And also to his credit for speaking up the other day.

🙏🕊️
