Help explain a church

The statue looks like Buddha. That was why I asked. And the antiCatholic has issued a challenge I am not adequately responding to.

And I could not find the parish listed in the archdiocese of Chicago nor as a parish in the town of Evergreen Park. But the church’s site says it is Roman Catholic (part of another diocese maybe?).

I don’t see what the problem is.
It is clearly a representation of the Incarnation.

To paraphrase the song: She is the mirror, Christ the vision blessed.

This is also the vision of the virgin (with the moon at her feet) which St. John saw in Revelation.

And, Mary is the new Ark of the New Covenant (Jesus).

Very true.

But her role as the new Ark of the Covent is tide solely to her having God-made-flesh in her womb.

Beyond the debates about the woman in Revelation (really they all reflect back to the Holy Virgin in some form or another – my Protestant friends split hairs about this with me – for my two cents, it is Mary), the crescent moon is tied to fertility (the female birth cycle).

Therefore, a direct reflection back to the Incarnation (God-made-flesh) and the Epiphany (truly God and truly man) as well.
 
Thanks for the help. I encounter frequent accusations against Mary and usually I am ablew to defend them (tho I never convince anyone) . Sometimes I have nothing to argue with.

It’s possible that what St. John saw were the stars and the moon in their formation on the date of the Incarnation or the date of His Birth. (Ever see the Bethlehem Star movie played on EWTN at Christmas? ) Either way, the women is of course Mary.

And Rick Larson, the movie’s producer, isn’t Catholic.

The quote above was not from me. There were two pictures of Mary on a Crucifix holding baby Jesus. It was in another Catholic room where we are often defending the faith. The pics would not post.
I am retired and have lots of time. So I sometimes try to defend my conversion to Catholicism. It ain’t always easy
 
I think protestant faiths, would probably look at that statue and get the incorrect belief that Catholics see Mary as a female goddess (the way that pagans honor the Virgin Mary).

I have to admit, I’m so accustomed to seeing Mary in light blue, that the deep red is striking. That red is a depth of color used in the non-Christian cultures of the East (Japan, Korea, etc.)

The Bible list the ten Commandments twice: once in Exo. and again in Duet.

Protestant have taken the Exo. 1 st. Commandment and made TWO seperate commandments out of it IN ORDER TOO CLAIM THAT THE CC WORSHIPS IDOLS

This is compensated in there version of the 10th Commandment where they COMBINE
"Thou shalt Not covet thy neighbors wife, or property.[making then equal]

We Catholics INCLUDE to proabition against IDOLS in the 1st. Commandment
and SEPERATE Thou shalt Not Covet thay neighbors wife [husband] as the 9th
AND thou Shat not Covet thy neighbord Good as the 10th.

Catrholics seperate People from things which seems to be more Moral and logical

What God FORBIDS is NOT immages, stsuyes, art that remind folks of God and heavenly things. WHAT GOD PROHIBITS IS FALES GODS.

Mary and the Sains are NOT WORSHIPED! They are shown reverance as is their DUE. And used as INTERCESSORS who ADD there OWN PRAYERS ON TOP OF OURS and then personally present them to God! ***

EWTN isn’t exactly known for putting on a variety of opinions that differ from their (overall) theological vision.

And don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that this is good or bad. EWTN has wonderful programming.

And I agree it is the Holy Virgin.

But the point I was making is that it is a debatable question (within the realm of orthodoxy).

But this particular image of the moon is in direct relation to a common symbol that refers to female fertility.

This is another example of God, in his mercy, using common symbolism of a particular era to communicate both his divinity and humanity.

For example, just as when Our Lord referred to himself as the Good Shepherd (a common image), God used imagery that related to a particular audience (at a particular time in history).
 
In the case of that photo Mary and the angels are around the Ark. With the Crucifix barely visible. It is directly behind the altar and I don’t feel comfortable with that.

I go to other Catholic rooms. And so do Catholic bashers. Admittedly I sometimes do enjoy debating and their challenges have forced me to grow in my faith. I have noticed that the Catholic bashers come in with a confirmed mindset based on pamphlets they read. They never rely on any legitimate Catholic publications. Once in a while they may quote a sentence from the Catechism but a quick check shows they took it out of context. I have also noticed that bashers come to attack but repeated requests never gets them to reveal the name of their own denominations. Of course while they attack us we cannot attack them. I suspect that they have something to hide.

First time I’ve never heard of a tipped moon being the symbol of female fertility.

Never heard of that before. You’re sure it’s a common symbol of fertility?

Looking at the pic and reading about it…this is the monstrance where the perpetual adoration is. It is symbolic of the Ark…Mary being the ark that carried Jesus in her womb.

I would say it is a very beautiful monstrance…Mary, the ark, the angels of the ark…wonderful.

The main sanctuary or altar would contain the main crucifix.
