I am a recovering heroin addict, born atheist, and am taking RCIA classes, etc., in preparation for my Baptism this coming Easter. I’ve taken steps to put myself into a controlled environment but upon getting a new job I’ve become surrounded by users. The temptation is so great that somedays I call in sick so I don’t have to face it. I’ve talked with my supervisor and they’ve moved the people nearby who were active users, even fired one, but my issue is that I thought that in walking with God and being clean for six months that I’d have a stronger defense against it. I need advice and support, please. Does anyone know a good prayer to use, or something from the Bible that will help guide and motivate me? I want to do this for God, to be a good daughter, and to earn his approval rather than saying no to drugs so that I don’t go back to jail and lose everything I’ve worked so hard for in my new life. Help, please?!!

I’m so sorry your job has triggers connected with it,I gather it’s a good job that you would like to hold? Do you have ongoing councelling? Praying you have continued strength to overcome. The Venerable Mathew Talbot is
a good one for help.Prayers and Godbless

Thanks so much! Yes, I love my job but am considering finding something else. I am surrounded by a group of people at my church that I met when attending services at the jail and am working toward becoming a minister myself and one day performing services at the jail. We also have a Charismatic Group every Sunday afternoon. It’s the day to day that I struggle with now and am wondering how I can ever become a minister if I struggle like this. Is this normal and I’m just not aware because I’ve never been clean this long? Lol! Thank you for your advice and prayers!! God bless!!

I’m a recovering heroin addict as well.

The temptation never goes away, it’s desire is for you, but you can master it.

My minister says it’s a Torment. Is that what you feel like it is as well? How have you been able to master it? And thank you for your response! God bless you!

Hi Gayl!

I’m proud of you. It’s not easy staying sober (the first year can be tough), but all you have is one day at a time (or even one minute at a time, if necessary). Have you been staying tight with your meetings and your sponsor? That’s the best way you have of making it through this time.

I’ve made it through 31 years sober and I’ll tell you that it was hard for me early on. Bottom line, I suggest lots of meetings if you can, and share your struggles with your sponsor.

And always remember, you’re in the best of Hands 24/7!

Your friend in recovery,

Stuart

A two pronged spiritual-physical holistic recovery system.

The Sacraments, prayer, almsdeeds, spiritual reading, etc. as to the spiritual healing.

Medication (methadone), counseling, and group therapy as to the physical healing. Also exercise and healthy diet help a lot.

in all addictions, I believe you’re struggling with a demon. Drugs are the
WRONG way to “get high” The RIGHT way is thru interpersonal
Love relationships, especially with Christ & Mary.
I just withstood an insidious sexual provocation & I had to absolutely
believe Jesus would enable me to reject it. “My grace is sufficient for
you, in your weakness My power is perfected”

Praying! May the Holy Spirit strengthen and assist you.

And may God bless you abundantly on your RCIA, baptism, and spiritual journey.
