Help finding a good parish in Orange County

We are relocating to the Orange County area are looking for a great parish.

Can any of you suggest a healthy, vibrant, faithful, orthodox Catholic parish? One that actually teaches and preaches what our Holy Mother Church teaches? One that encourages reverence, respect and holiness?

I pray that there is at least one!

We are moving from an area where heterodoxy is rampant and liturgy is abused horribly.

Thank you so much for any suggestions you can offer!
 
I’ve never been to the O.C., so I can’t suggest a particular parish. But here’s a list of Catholic Parishes in Orange County: rcbo.org/parishes/list.htm

Orange County, California? Orange County, Florida? There are several Orange Counties. Anyway, if it’s Orange County California let me know what city you are moving to and I can offer some advice.

Sorry about the confusion - I didn’t realize that there were so many Orange counties.

I am referring to Orange County, CA.

Yes, I can. There is a tradtional chapel somewhere in Garden Grove. Otherwise, forget it!
 
Diocese of Orange w/ Bishop Brown has become a Los Angeles Archdiocese clone.

There is a very good orthodox Abbey in Orange County if you are interested:

Despite the recent negative commentary about St. Mary by the Sea in Huntington Beach, it remains among the best parishes in the diocese.

St. Michael’s Abbey is top notch, but it is not a parish.

Consider St. John Vianney Chapel on Balboa Island. Solid sermons, excellent daily Mass, very well attended.

Well, it depends on the city to which you are moving. There are good, solid, orthodox parishes throughout the county (regardless of what you might hear from others). The Norbertine Fathers at St. Michael’s Abbey are very orthodox. Since they run St. John the Baptist I would presume that to be very solid.

My own (Latin Rite) parish, St. Joseph in Placentia, is orthodox in teaching (I’m assuming you are looking for a Latin Rite parish so I won’t suggest my Melkite parish). San Juan Capistrano is orthodox (the pastor, Fr. Arthur Holquin is very conservative). There are others so, again, if you will let me know the city you are considering I can provide better guidance.

I wonder how long you’ve known Fr. Art. I’ve known him for a very long time, and I disagree with you. However, this is why I objected to the “liberal parish” thread – everyone applies their own subjective standards.

The cities/areas we are considering moving to are:

Laguna Beach
Aliso Viejo
San Juan Capistrano
San Clemente
Newport Beach
Dana Point
Costa Mesa
Mission Viejo
Laguna Woods
Rancho Santa Margarita
Lake Forest

Basically, we are considering middle and lower Orange County.

If there is not a good parish in our area, we are willing to drive.

I have visited the parish websites of parishes in these areas listed above, but as you know, the website only tells you so much.

What is a conservative these days anyways? Is President Bush a conservative even though he supports legalized murder in some cases? The former admistrator of St. Mary’s by the Sea was considered a conservative, and yet he wanted to destroy things that were considered too traditional for example, he forced the people not the use the Altar rails at the English Novus Ordo Masses.** Forced the parish to have Extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist.** Forced the parish to have lay lectors in the sanctuary and he is considered one of the most conservative priest in Orange County???

Here are my suggestions:
-Annuntiation Byzantine Catholic Church
-St. Michael’s Abbey of the Norbertine Fathers
-If you are interested in the Traditional Latin Mass, then Serra Chapel at Mission San Juan Capristrano.

People complain in Orange County that we are shallow.

There is a traditional Latin Mass at the Serra Chaple at Mission San Juan (usually standing room only). St. John Vianney which has already been mentioned, is in Newport Beach (on Balboa Island) and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel currently being administered by Msgr. Lawrence Baird.

I cannot speak to the other parishes as I do not have sufficient familiarity with them.

Iohannes has suggested Annunciation Byzantine which is a Ruthenian parish and Msgr. George Vida is the pastor. It’s in Anaheim and they’ve just finished building a new church.
