Help finding an early Church Saint

Im on here to find out something, Im not on here to sit and talk disrespectful to other Christians asking serious questions. MariaG, why dont you follow whats in those scriptures instead of argue with people on the internet about a small point of miswording, what hypocrisy.

If this is how people are going to act Im not going to use this forum.

Seriously, quit debating semantics. If you’re not going to contribute, why post? This person is asking our help and people are jumping on a few faulty miswordings. If people are going to point out errors on semantics, they should darn well do their best to make sure that their own posts are perfect in matters of syntax, punctuation usage, spelling, and grammar.

Anyway, what about Gregory Nazianzen? Greek bishop who fought the Arian heresy.

Im looking for the name, and if you know the history of the early church, like the person above me said, there were scriptures out there you weren’t supposed to read. He was a major public speaker and had people going home and burning their scriptures that werent the 4 ghospels.

Some more info about him:
In the one picture I saw of him he had one of those square things filled with squares around his neck that the jews used to wear.

If someone can help me find this person it would be greatly appreciated.

I thought maybe you were talking about Origen, since he adopted the Jewish view that young men should not read the Song of Songs (since they wouldn’t understand the spiritual meaning and it would just inflame lust).

Many of the early Christians fulminated against apocryphal Gospels, etc., which often had heretical content. That’s not a very helpful clue. Irenaeus was the first to insist on a four-Gospel canon, as far as I know, but he was active in Gaul, not Palestine.

Perhaps you are in fact thinking of Origen. He was condemned as a heretic at II Constantinople (long after his death, giving him no opportunity to recant!) and has not in fact been canonized.

I saw him on the history channel, and I cant find the picture I saw. What happend was I was impressed with the guy but didnt write down anything about him. Then a week or so later I wanted to find out who he was, maybe read from him if he has any books, and I havent been able to find him.

Actually the only scriptures are not found only in the bible, what about the scriptures of Abraham, or other lost scriptures.

Really why waste my time and the peoples time reading this thread on a mis-wording. I think its a common mistake even in society, people hear scriptures and think of old writings.

In English, when you say “Scriptures” it means the Bible as we know it. If it didn’t make the canon, we don’t call it “scripture” unless we are speaking of the holy book of another faith, and then we qualify it with an adjective, such as referring to the Q’ran as the “scripture” of Islam.
