I am a fairly regular Catholic teenage girl. I enjoy going out and looking for clothes, at least, when I can find something modest enough. Recently, I have been trying to find a website or a store where I can get modest clothes. I have had some luck, but most of the things I have found seem more like things that my mother would wear.🤷 Does anyone know of a store/website where I can find clothing that is modest, but fits with my age a bit more? Any help is most appreciated! 🙂

Errr…good luck. Most of the stuff out nowadays is hyper-sexualized. Try making your own? Most of the “modest” clothing for young ladies that I have seen appears old fashioned, but it is designed to convey the proper message, that you respect yourself and that you insist that others do as well. Modern “trendy” clothing isn’t designed to be modest, it is intended to convey a different message altogether. That said, if you understand that modesty is an inside job (it starts in your mind and in your heart) you don’t need a special “place” to buy clothes, you should be able to find appropriate wear regardless of where you shop.

Good for you Shannon Moore. One of my pet peeves, not to mention something that is very inappropriate, is the way some young girls (and woman) dress for Mass. Dressing modestly is something we need to teach our daughters when they are very young. It is so important

I think Mr. Lafrance is right. I don’t profess to know what a young woman would consider fashionable, but I see a lot of modest clothes for young woman when I am in the mall. It might take a little more effort, but is worth doing.

Good luck Shannon. I’m proud of you.

Honestly, I go through a site that markets to Muslim women called Shukr- it has floor-length skirts and tunics but they are incredibly classy and suit younger women very well. I rarely go out in one without someone commenting on it!

Do you have a Kohl’s? J.C. Penney? Target? Walmart?

it’s hard finding modest clothes online or in the store, but i manage to always come across something every so often, and that’s pretty much how i shop, just a little here, and little there.
but mostly i layer my clothes, with such things like jumpers or lighter dresses,
but really i haven’t come across any sites or stores that specifically sell more modest clothes that actually look good…although i would choose modesty over fashion if i had to…and i usually do d:

just a thought, but have you ever thought of making your own clothes? i know that might sound silly or to hard(unless you already know how to sew) but if you can find a sewing teacher or something, it’s really not that hard to learn, and sewing can be easy depending on what you make, especially dresses can be easy,
just something for you to think about.

well actually there is this one site, but i’ve never found anything on it that i either liked or could afford, - modestclothes.com
the modest clothes i found that i did like were always to expensive, but maybe you’ll have better luck finding something.

Garnet Hill?

Walmart and Tarjayyy are sort of a gamble. Sometimes you get a nice array, sometimes not.

Chico’s and QVC would probably seem ‘old’ to you. Good luck.

I honestly don’t see a problem with what people wear now (we’re talking short skirts, tank tops, etc. right?). Style’s of clothing change… in the early 1900s, everyone wore formal clothing… etc.

Sorry if I’m not getting something, but I would not consider that immodest.

LL Bean and Lands End have classic, well made, modest clothes. They do not market specifically to teens, but they have petite and small misses sizes available. When my daughter is a teen, I plan on getting her clothes from those sites. She is only two now and I shudder to imagine what the kids will be wearing by then!

I really like Forever 21. They have lots of immodest clothes, but lots of modest ones as well. Long dresses, nice shirts, t-shirts, long skirts, etc. Even stores that appear to sell a lot of immodest clothes usually sell some modest ones as well. You just might have to dig a little more. Oh yeah and they are super inexpensive.
I just copied and pasted a few things I liked from their website that I thought were cute and modest

If you wanted to make the dresses a little more modest you could add a cami underneath, but IMO they’re fine the way they are.

buy clothes for your figure type, juniors are for slender boyish figures, misses are for more rounded developed figures. If you try jeans and tops in the wrong type they will never fit right and that is where most of the immodesty we see comes from.
try online and catalog stores like Lands End that specialize in basics. When you know your body type and size and how their things run you can build a wardrobe around basics and add some fun funky stuff that you wear as accents, over say a tank or something to provide proper coverage.

I would suggest taking full advantage of legging and camis. You also can look in more adult sections. I love Kohls and shop there in there misses section. They have lots of clothes that are modest and not too “old” looking. There is a website called diviinemodestee.com/home.html

You’re joking, right?

A young woman in our church shops at this website and she looks fabulous and feminine every time that I see her.

Those prices aren’t even FUNNY.
a teenager with virtually no living expenses (mortgage, car payment, dentist, doctor, electricity, etc) and any money she has is disposable could easily afford these clothes if she is motivated. They easily drop 80 bucks a month for a cell phone plan with unlimited texting or a new game for their xbox or wii.

Yes, they are pricey, but isn’t how you appear to others the best investment you can make? The clothes at walmart are not modest and are not very well made. I buy a lot of things there including socks, tshirts and sweats but I would not buy my work clothes or clothes for church and social events there. Just my 2 cents.

Seriously.

Half, maybe three-quarters of my clothes come from Wally World courtesty of White Stag. I get tops from $5-15; bottoms for slightly more. I may look a lot of things but immodest ain’t one of them.

I hear tell thrift is a virtue.

Oh.my.gosh.
When I was a teenager one of those shirts would’ve cost me half a paycheck. The only kids I knew of that spent that much money on clothes were the ones with very well-off parents (who paid for them).

God bless you Shannon!

Why not try laying clothing? A light, closer-necked shirt under a V-neck, a shrug over a spaghetti-string dress, some leggings under a skirt? Peace!

Banana Republic sells modest fashionable clothes that are suitable AND they have outlets around the country where you can get great buys. My DD is able to purchase items there appropriate for young attorneys. Brooks Brothers is another idea.
