So I am a teenager who is very involved in youth group and I consider myself pretty religious, but the past couple years I’ve had a major thing setting me back. When I was a freshman I was going through wierd depression issues, nothing suicidal, just wierd mood swings and I was drawn into the whole pornography scene. It has been two years now and I still havent quit for good. I will go weeks or even a month or two at a time without it but then I am always drawn back in. This just makes me more depressed by seeing how much of a hypocrite I have been. I am just lost here, and have prayed for it every night, yet to see nothing getting better. I’m almost getting to the point where I’m losing hope and it’s just not good overall.

Is there anything I can do?

First,if you are going weaks and sometimes months without looking at porn, and this is an improvement over the past, you are making improvements. We live in a society where sex is used to sell everything from farm tractors to shaving cream.Music(I’m a musician),TV.movies and evan vidio games bombard us with sex and violence. The best way to combat a bad habit is to replace it with good ones.Pray the Rosary, attend Mass, read Holy Scripture,Read books and listen to music that will encourage you in your faith. Finally,go to confession often.Praying for you.

I echo what wardrandolph says.

Remember losing hope is exactly what satan wants you to do. he doesn’t need us all to become mass murders. just being ineffective suits him perfect, ineffective in spiritual growth, lives, familes, communites, etc.

I’m praying also.

I am sorry you are struggling with sins of the flesh. The devil loves to get at us through this evil sin. The first thing to do is go to confession, pray often for help from Jesus, recieve the Holy Eucharist, and don’t put yourself in a place or situation to fall victim to this sin. When your mind starts thinking of going toward the temptation , stop immediately and picture Jesus on the cross suffering, and start praying. You can do this by substituting your bad thoughts and desires for holy ones and prayer. If you have to drop to your knees in prayer to stop it , do it.

I will be praying for you, we all struggle, but nothing is impossible when we have Jesus by our side. Please visit the Blessed Sacrament, this helps so very much.

Blessings

Mary had perfect hope. Ask for her intercession, after all she is Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Most all all whenever you get the urge immediatly go and pray. Place a crucifix in your room. Or a picture of Jesus, icons of saints, etc. And when you feel an urge pray and meditate on the picture, on who it represnents, all their virtues and ask God for the virtues of hope and purity.

And Confession, with a regular confessor.

Also this is your spiritual battle. Pray the Prayer to St. Michael.

If it’s any comfort, the mood swings and such of 13-15 year-olds is part of the job description, but I’m sure you’ve figured out that by now.

thanks to all. I was at youth group and they showed a video by rob bell (if you havent seen him, check it out) and it talked about a passage in romans that says “There is nothing you can ever do to make him love you less” and then we had confession, which totally revamped everything because i was finally seeing God coming through.

Thanks for the prayers!
