Let’s say a person wastes years of the prime of his life doing drugs, not working, stunting his personal growth, dulling his intelligence. How does one get back into a sound frame of mind and stop being crippled with regret for those years and opportunities that are gone? Any book recommendations?

Should said person undergo counselling/therapy?

I think counseling/therapy might be a good idea!

One book recommendation - if you don’t mind a non-Catholic author - would be *In the Grip of Grace *by Max Lucado. I find his writing to be very tender, very affirming, and might help you to stop dwelling on the past. If you read this book and like his style, I can also recommend *He Still Moves Stones *and A Gentle Thunder.

All these are some of his older books - I haven’t really kept up with newer ones. I just know I’ve been very blessed by Lucado’s books and credit them for helping me through a difficult time, drawing me closer to God.

Blessings to you - I will pray for you.

For things like drinking and doing drugs, AA and other appropriate groups have helped millions.
