As an 18 years old, life
Continues to get harder but I hope with God’s help I wil be able to overcome this.
I will pray the rosary everyday and try my best to defeat the evil temptations

Thank you again. My fears have lessened a lot. I feel I will be able to sleep better tonight
:blessyou: The rosary is the right answer. Ask God for purity. You can’t obtain it by yourself. Don’t stop praying even if you fall. That will be very tempting! Don’t stop. Don’t stop. Don’t stop. God bless.

I never expected to get this many replys in such little time. Wow. Thank you again everyone. I feel blessed to have found out about this site. I feel like the previous struggle was God’s way of helping me out by introducing me to this website as He probably knew that trying to overcome this alone wouldn’t be enough.
I feel a lot more comfortable knowing that there are other people going through or who have went through similar struggles as I have. I know everything happens for a reason. Life wasn’t going to be a simple stroll in the park. Challenges and obstacles are made to be overcome and as a test of faith. So i will do my best to get past this obstacle that I face!
Only time will tell if ill be able to overcome this. I sometimes wish it wouldnt take as long due to my
Impatience.
Can I ask for you guys to pray for me so that I will be able to overcome this addiction?
And is it okay if some of you guys keep in touch with me now and then to help me back on the right path? You are all wonderful people and I am thankful and blessed that you all have replied here to help me out. I truly am thankful.
I never had the courage to share this with anyone until now (except during confession). And I am very glad to Be open about this issue

Researchers had a difficult time testing the effects of internet porn on the brain, because they couldn’t assemble a control group of men who had never been exposed to internet porn. You are most definitely not alone, friend. 🙂

It’s so much more so now. The first porn I ever saw was on the internet when I was 13 and you know how nutty that stuff gets. The sad fact is that I have to be thinking of those scenes to even get pleasure. Though abstaining really has helped improve that. I never really abstained before recently, I just didnt have the internet at home anymore, so Im not at all saying that you’re brain has changed forever. Just the opposite. But I do wish pornhad never been invented. I feel worse for teenagers today since There is so much more of it.

You really do have us! 🙂

Internet porn addiction can lead to erectile dysfunction (that can’t be fixed by drugs). Men in their 50s with internet porn induced e.d. recover more quickly than men in their 20s. Why? Their brains didn’t grow up with the Internet.

V,

I am amazed at so many posting about this topic and wonder sometimes. I have no idea why. There are several things to look at.

Addiction is a disease and there is no cure so live with it. That is the 12 step mentality.

If you choose to eliminate this notion and accept it as habit then you have hope. There are several things you can and should do. Accept that that it is a process that has an end goal. Imagine that goal and believe in that goal. Realilty is imagined or real. In other words if you can imagine success you can succeed.

Next find a reason to stop. You have a few I noticed. Motivation is key. To find motivation, you have to find a reason to do something other than what you do. Everyday spend some time asking yourself “why you want to change” and “why not changing” causes concern. List these things. When you find the reason why that will help motivation.

Stanton Peele, PhD, says that the key is values. Without values then you will continue doing what you do. The Catholic answer to that is Virtue. spend some time learning about human virtue and practice human virtue…

These are the values Peele says are important…
  1. Self-control and moderation
  2. Accomplishment and competence.
  3. Self-consciousness and awareness of one’s environment.
  4. Health.
  5. Self-esteem.
  6. Relationships with others, community, and society.
Sometimes we focus on the negative and I see here that you have done that. The best way to focus in my opinion is not on the negative but the positive. Model behavior is a good way to do that. Meditate daily on the Saints. Can you imagine any Saint that you meditate on watching pornography and masturbating. This is a non-sequitor. Success comes with surrounding yourself and in your mind with people that have succeeded.

There will be success, there will be failure…who doesn’t fall now and again…just keep the goal in mind and keep at it…eliminate the pornography for starters and find a Saint to admire…good luck…
THIS IS VERY BAD ADVICE FOR ADDICTS…
This poster and the “doctor” he advocates have been thoroughly discredited. The doctor is a shill for liquor companies. Google it if in doubt. Take note of the organizations that pay for his studies.

👍👍👍

I am a fellow addict dealing with this particularly annoying sin, and the best advice I can give you is to ;

1: Go to confession, weekly if necessary. The support and advice I have received from my confessor has done great things for me.

2: Pray the Rosary daily. I try to say at least one Rosary every day of the week. This has done wonders for me, not only in dealing with this addiction, but also in advancing my spiritual life.

3: Pray to St. Joseph. If you are married, pray that he may help you be a good husband. If you are not, pray that he may help you remain pure for the benefit of your future spouse. This was some advice that my confessor gave, and I feel that it helped quite a bit.
These are all three great spiritual practices and are part of spiritual discipline. However lust addiction can’t be prayed away, it will require practical strategies to overcome. This almost universally requires accountability to other people, either formally in a program or on a buddy system. You have already indicated you have tried to stop. Don’t mess around, this addiction is every bit as hard as any drug to overcome. I’m 15 years in and just getting sober. Go over to the impurity addiction support group on this site. Lots of support there. It’s anonymous to the rest of the forum.

Thank you everyone for your help and advice! It’s been a few weeks and The battle against this addiction and temptation is going strong. Whenever the temptations arise again I just pray hard upon it. I know this fight is far from over and that as time passes the lust and temptation wont go away that easily, but with God’s help, I know I will be able to come out on top.
My only regret was letting the lust and temptation take over for so long… But I’ll continue to do what I can again to get back on the right path again!

CHAPTER 13 – On Resisting Temptations [The Imitation of Christ]
So long as we live in this world, we cannot remain without trial and temptation: as Job says, “Man’s life on earth is a warfare.” We must therefore be on guard against temptations, and watchful in prayer, that the Devil find no means of deceiving us; for he never rests, but prowls around seeking whom he may devour. No one is so perfect and holy that he is never tempted, and we can never be secure from temptation.
Although temptations are so troublesome and grievous, yet they are often profitable to us, for by them we are humbled, cleansed, and instructed. All the Saints endured manly trials and temptations, and profited by them; but those who could not resist temptations became reprobate, and fell away. There is no Order so holy, nor place so secluded, where there are no troubles and temptations.
No man can be entirely free from temptation so long as he lives; for the source of temptation lies within our own nature, since we are born with an inclination towards evil. When one temptation or trial draws to a close, another takes its place; and we shall always have something to fight, for man has lost the blessing of original happiness. Many try to escape temptations, only to encounter them more fiercely, for no one can win victory by flight alone; it is only by patience and true humility that we can grow stronger than all our foes.
The man who only avoids the outward occasions of evil, but fails to uproot it in himself, will gain little advantage. Indeed, temptations will return upon him the sooner, and he will find himself in a worse state than before. Little by little and by patient endurance you will overcome them by God’s help, better than by your own violence and importunity. Seek regular advice in temptation, and never deal harshly with those who are tempted, but give them such encouragement as you would value yourself.
The beginning of all evil temptation is an unstable mind and lack of trust in God. Just as a ship without a helm is driven to and fro by the waves, so a careless man, who abandons his proper course, is tempted in countless ways. Fire tempers steel, and temptation the just man. We often do not know what we can bear, but temptation reveals our true nature. We need especially to be on our guard at the very onset of temptation, for then the Enemy may be more easily overcome, if he is not allowed to enter the gates of the mind: he must be repulsed at the threshold, as soon as he knocks. Thus the poet Ovid writes, “Resist at the beginning; the remedy may come too late.” For first there comes into the mind an evil thought: next, a vivid picture: then delight, and urge to evil, and finally consent. In this way the Enemy gradually gains complete mastery, when he is not resisted at first. And the longer a slothful man delays resistance, the weaker he becomes, and the stronger his enemy grows against him.
Some people undergo their heaviest temptations at the beginning of their conversion; some towards the end of their course; others are greatly troubled all their lives; while there are some whose temptations are but light. This is in accordance with the wisdom and justice of God’s ordinance, who weighs the condition and merits of every man, and disposes all things for the salvation of those whom He chooses.
We must not despair, therefore, when we are tempted, but earnestly pray God to grant us his help in every need. For, as Saint Paul says, “With the temptation, God will provide a way to overcome it, that we may be able to bear bear it.” So, let us humble ourselves under the hand of God, in every trial and trouble, for He will save and raise up the humble in Spirit. In all these trials, our progress is tested; in them great merit may be secured, and our virtue become evident. It is no great matter if we are devout and fervent when we have no troubles; but if we show patience in adversity, we can make great progress in virtue. Some are spared severe temptations, but are overcome in the lesser ones of every day, in order that they may be humble, and learn not to trust in themselves, but to recognize their frailty.
