Drop her.

Get out. Get out now.

You’re making her miserable and yourself miserable.

IF, say, you marry, you’ll have a miserable marriage, you’ll want out and SHE won’t let you get a divorce!

You say that you don’t want to convert. If you did, you’d make a miserable Catholic and, as she’s so gung-ho, you’d have a hard time of it–VERY hard time with some things, like birth control, unless you get a vasectomy after, say, 2 children, and don’t tell her. Not a good idea.

It’s up to HER to find an observant Catholic, not to try to make one out of you.

Get out NOW.

I know you’ve said thanks for the responses but I have to say, I’ve been there. Only in my case, I was the Catholic girlfriend. We broke it off and I’m glad we did. We were able to be friends, but we needed to heal first.

If we had stayed together, we would have been miserable. The Catholic/non-Catholic thing was our greatest problem. I got into my faith even more and he was losing his (he grew up Protestant). We actually used to see eye-to-eye on morals and some aspects of faith. But even when he was still a practicing Christian, he had a hard time with my Catholicism: why I believed in the Eucharist, why I went to Confession, why I said rosaries and prayers to the saints.

While you can have a mixed marriage, it’s very difficult. You’d have to be OK with the teachings of each other’s faith. In your case, you’d have to be OK with saving sex for the marriage bed, no contraception, raising the kids as Catholic, and even little things, like letting her have statues or family grace at the dinner table. It would very much be a part of your life.

You’re not a bad person and it’s good that you have a lot of questions. I’ll be praying for you and this girl. It’s definitely important to be on the same page regarding your beliefs.
