I like the idea of being together forever with my future spouse and I like the idea that nearly everybody will make it to some level of Heaven.
Jesus said that in heaven we won’t get married, we will be like angels. We will reach the level that we deserve.
Mormons preach lies, the biggest lie is that Jesus wasn’t God.
Joseph Smith, the founder of mormonism, was a freemason…
That’s from WIkipedia:
According to church theology, the restoration took place through a series of visions and revelations, including Smith’s First Vision in 1820, visits by various angelic messengers including Moroni, John the Baptist, Moses, Elijah, and the apostles Peter, James and John.
or

The church teaches that in the future the Second Coming of Jesus will occur, followed by a thousand years of peace, after which will occur the Last Judgment. Distinctive within Latter-day millennialism, however, is the idea that Jesus will reign “personally upon the earth” from a location that is presently within the United States[68] and direct the government or governments that will exist.[69] Jackson County, Missouri is expected to have an important LDS temple during the Millennium and Jerusalem is expected to be an important center of government in the world.[70]

What they teach is completely ridiculous. Keep away from them brother!

I confessed my sin and I soon plan to officially withdraw my membership from the Mormon church. This will require a meeting with the bishop (pastor) of the Mormon church. Any tips on how to handle that meeting will be greatly appreciated. 👍
Yes… don’t go. With absolutely NO apostolic authority, that `bishop’ is not due anything. Withdrawing your membership doesn’t require you to do anything but never go back.

Understand also that you are not alone. While the lds church has claimed many christians' converting to their religion’, most are not staying when they learn more of lds history, revolving-door-theology, polygamous unions and the shady intentions and actions of Joseph Smith.

The only Bishop you should be meeting with is the Catholic one, to whose parish you are returning.

And welcome back!!!

Meanwhile, could somebody please help refute the following doctrines with either scripture verses or something else?:

  1. *]Marriage is forever. If you get sealed in the temple, you’ll be married to your spouse even in Heaven.

  1. I recommend JPII’s Theology of the Body. Marriage is a type of Jesus union with His Bride, the Church. The marriage of the Lamb will far surpass any temporal representation such as marriage.

    Matt 22:30
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
*]Some evidence of the Great Apostasy is that the Church was paganized when Constantine legalized Christianity.
First you will have to show that the Church was Paganized. After you do that, maybe I can help. 🤷
    Code:
*]There are three levels of Heaven.
I don’t know about levels in heaven, but I know that each of us will be eternally where God decides.

    2 Cor 3:17-18
18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being changed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

    1 John 3:1-3
2 Beloved, we are God’s children now; it does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 And every one who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.

Doesnt’ it make more sense to focus on purfifying ourselves, as He is pure, than it does focusing on our own wants and needs? 🤷
Also, I converted to Mormonism last year but have since come back to the Catholic Church. I confessed my sin and I soon plan to officially withdraw my membership from the Mormon church. This will require a meeting with the bishop (pastor) of the Mormon church. Any tips on how to handle that meeting will be greatly appreciated. 👍
Spent a Holy Hour a day in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

When I came to my senses and came home to the Catholic Church I only sent a letter to Salt Lake to the Records Office and told them to remove my name from the rolls of the church. I got a follow-up letter telling me this had been done. You don’t have to meet with their bishop. You have the right to renounce your membership in the church without harrassment.

Thanks. I think that is what I will do. I know that if I meet with the “bishop”, I’ll likely be preached at.

Most Mormon doctrine is fiction.

There is nothing in the Bible that says that Jesus was a spirit child and that we can also become them and then rule as gods on our own planets.

Jesus plainly tells us that no one is married of given in marriage in Heaven yet the Mormons teach that they are.

These are not the only things, but better keep that in mind.
Stop shopping for novel ideas and study your own faith.

They will most likely send you a letter that says something to the effect that by resigning from the mormon church, all the blessings of God will be taken from you.

I’m sorry if I have offended you Michael but I am not studying the Mormon faith. I was just simply remembering some of the doctrines that they teach. I have been studying my own faith. But thank you for your concern anyway. 🙂

Yeah, I heard about that.

Could somebody please help me with staying Catholic? I want to stay Catholic so badly but the doctrines of Mormonism keep attracting me the other way! 😦 I like the idea of being together forever with my future spouse and I like the idea that nearly everybody will make it to some level of Heaven. Please show me how these doctrines are wrong and discourage me from going back to the Mormon church! I really don’t want to go back! I know that the Catholic Church is God’s Church on earth but I need to know for sure that Mormonism is wrong because as long as I am not sure of it, I am considering going back. That and I actually have a friend who goes to the Mormon church while I have very few close friends who go to the Catholic Church. Please help me!]

Hi i was raised catholic. Ive always had a belief in God and Jesus, but i never had a love for the church itself, I was seduced by the mormons strenght of testimony and the friendliness of the local ward. I was led here (this forum) in my search for the truth, I read every link, watched the arguments, visited my priest, it was a lot of info, made my head swim. The more you look you’ll find things that don’t sit right. For me the clincher was Joseph Smith himself.Google him, Look at his life, his character, his speeches. He was a smooth talker, intelligent, charasmatic (what great leaders aren’t) . I can’t imagine in my wildest dreams God choosing Joseph Smith as his mouth piece. He let power go to his head and ended up believing what he was saying. Making up revelations that were self serving.ie God wanting to reward him for being wonderful so he should take lots of wives. He calls the BoM the most correct book on earth. He wanted to take a young girl as his wife, her brother objected so he had a revelation that the brother should go on a mission to the other side of the country, than he took the young girl for one of his many wives. JESUS IS LOVE, the life he lived showed with actions not just words what he wanted us to be. Joseph Smiths character to me is the biggest obstacle i had with this whole religion. No matter how nice the people i met are, the religion is flawed. My priest gave me some books on the mass. I wept when i read them, you know truth when it hits you between the eyes. I also joined the choir to involve myself more, its been funny and wonderful. This forum is a great lifeline wander through and find many people who are having similar experiences and it will help you keep strong.

You are waiting for the right words to convince you look long enough and you will find them:hug1:

Holly:

God bless you for putting your faith struggle out here. I admire you and thank the Holy Spirit.

I had two friends, one Mormon, one Catholic. The Catholic had an abusive father who used to beat them so she joined the Mormons. She said that she liked the way the Mormons treated families. So she married a Mormon man who neglected her and her children and she left him. He remarried and legally (in Utah) got custody of their kids.

The other friend is no longer a Mormon.

At that time, I was young, alone, and had to stand up for myself (as a Catholic) amidst many Mormon acquaintances. So I read a lot about the Mormon church.

Did you know that the “golden tablets” were never seen by anyone except Joseph Smith?
Did you know that the temple rites that seal you and your spouse “for time and all eternity” are strangely familiar to anyone who knows the Masonic rituals?
Did you know that Joseph Smith lived in an area of New England that was called the “burnt-out” district, due to the campfire revivals of many new American religious cults and movements; in short, Smith was a pretty savvy young man before (allegedly) finding those tablets? It would be interesting to study the rise of these American hybrid religions that sprang up in the early 19th century.
Are you aware of how the “prophets” state and then later correct doctrines?
Are you beginning to see a picture of how this religion was invented, why it was (and still is) attractive to some and how it has some truths mixed in with some serious lies?

I have enjoyed some times with Mormons; they were wholesome and healthy in their lifestyle and the youth were fun, kind, and well-mannered. But to me it is a cult: “Easy to get into and hard to leave”. It looks very easy but the influences at the social, political, and spiritual level can be frightening. Read “The Mormon Murders”.

Jackie Gleason said, “I’d rather be a bad Catholic than a good anything else.” Ponder that. It’s a tougher road for sure. And it’s mighty confusing these days with many Catholics ignoring the law and the traditions. Lots of “smorgasbord Catholics” water down the message at times and make you wonder what this faith is about. Other faiths look more potent or visible to the naked eye at times.

But go deeper. Read. Talk. Ask older Catholics. Starch your catechism. Find orthodoxy. The rewards will be great.

Thanks to both of you for your kind words and advice. I really appreciate it.

Anyway, I am nearly crying right now because last night I started doubting the Church again and was considering going back to Mormonism once again. I now realize that I must go to confession today and be forgiven as I am in a state of mortal sin for willfully doubting the Catholic Church. I feel so ashamed that I have done this to God. 😦

During my doubts last night, I called the missionaries and they are going to come and visit me today and now I don’t know what to do. I think I know enough to defend the Catholic faith and to tell them what is wrong about the Mormon faith but I’m not sure. They are pretty skilled in what they do. 😦

I hope that you all will forgive me for what I have done and not be angry with me. I had to tell the truth about what I did. Please pray for me!

I know where your at i was there a couple of months ago, From experience you cant argue with them because they truly have an answer to everything.Mostly they wouldnt answer my questions i was continually asked to pray about the Bom being true. I was told that if i didnt believe in the Bom i didnt believe in the bible because one is an extention of the other, I felt pressured to have a testimony, i was told that IF i didnt it was because God didn’t think i was ready to have one. Its very emotional. I ended up telling the mormons i was researching my own faith and needed time. I havn’t seen them since. I’ve just returned from mass tonight. I really feel now like i’m looking at this easter as my new beginning it has been an emotional one, nothing wrong with that. Be strong, dont make any rushed decisions. take time out to absorb what you can:thumbsup: I’m here if i can help you.

Thank you MelMac. I greatly appreciate your help and support. It means a lot to me. 🙂

I’ve been looking for something i had read that impacted on me, so far i can’t find it, heres a link for something i found tonight.
geocities.com/worldview_3/history.html
it might help, i found that when i opened a site it always led me to another. nite mel:)

I can’t help but think this is false somehow.

You ask for proof that Mormons have it all wrong - you get this proof and then you still act like you need more proof. You can’t possibly have enough knowledge to defend the Catholic Church if you can’t even accept the truth with it directly in front of you on the computer screen.

At the risk of sounding super harsh and I apologize before hand - I think it’s time to grow up.
