HELP- I need a rotating chore list!

Hello,

I am hoping someone would be willing to share a template for a rotating chore list.

We have three teens that are now off for the summer! They all have fairly busy schedules during the school year, but are still required to help out at home. They share dish detail, clean room once a week, put away laundry etc. My DH and I work together and our business is very busy in the summer and having the kids be more responsible at home would help us out tremendously. Not to mention they learn valuable skills for their future.

But I notice in the summer, they not only need the structure but a list keeps the bickering and arguing about who did what and how many times to a minimum! I would also like to add more chores on this list since they have more time to help out. (cleaning bathroom, laundry, etc.) My DH would like to use this summer to show our younger ones
how to do laundry, lite cookiing etc. (older one already does this).

Their ages are 21 boy (I guess not a teen, attends college in town and lives at home),
16 boy and girl 13)

Any help is deeply appreciated!

My list does not rotate because then I have to remember it. I have found that things stay more consistant and under control…including less bickering when it just stays and I dont have to ask who has the job not yet done that week… I know who was responsible. As a single mom of 7 under the age of 14 this works for me. (BTW boy/girl does not really matter with chores, we all need to know how to do all of them eventually, but all mine are girls except the 5 yr old)

Kitchen Chores
(these rotates between the 4 oldest)
Wash dishes ( washer chooses next weeks job and who dries)
Dry and Put away ( does wash next week )
(washer has the power to give the most unliked job to whomever she chooses, but has to work with her for a week!)
Wash counters and put food away
Floors-sweep and mop as needed
Clear the table 7 yr old
Wash the benches 5 yr old
help set table 3 yr old

Laundry chores

Wash and hangon line or dry my 12 yr old
fold -9 yr old
Everyone puts away their own clothes, but the 14 yr old helps the youngest three to ensure it gets done right.
the 11 yr old puts away my clothes
the 7 yr old puts away towels and wash clothes in the bathrooms
the 5 and 3 yr old put away kitchen towels and wash clothes

Everyday chores

Trash…collect from the house and make sure it is out weekly -12 yr old
Pick up Living room - 9 yr old
Clean bathrooms , pick up daily toilets 2/week 11 yr old
Help with meal prep - 14 yr old
Sort laundry and get it to the laundry room daily and keep hallways and stairs neat- 7 yr old
keep toys put away 5 yr old

everyone is responsible for their rooms and beds even the 3 yr old
everyone does his or her own part to keep the classroom clean

I work from and out of the home and homeschool so this works for us. Most of the jobs have fallen to the child who does them best and likes it most. I have had people who are concerned that they have so much to do, but in a large family we all carry our weight and work together, I have very responsible and happy children. They know that they are needed and important. Have a job to do and everyone else depends on them. They are the first to vollenteer at church and home. They frequently ask if there is more they can do to help my business.
Kids baulk at chores, but when started early they grow a great work ethic, Mine love having thier own thing to do and will do “their” chore even when visitng Grandma.

This is not a fool proof plan or perfect for everyone, but after yeers of tweeking, it works for us right now, as they grow, we will adjust.

Wow! Thank you for your reply. Your breakdown of chores and who’s responsible was very helpful and also being a single mom of 7 with such organization is truly commendable!

I don’t blame you for not wanting to have to keep track of who’s in charge of what chore, I don’t want to have to do that either. I just noticed that my kids enjoy looking at a list and signing off on it. And it also helps with me having to remind them, it gets put on the kitchen bulletin board and it gets done with little effort on my part.

I tried looking online for a template online but didn’t have much luck. Hopefully someone will come through with something I could use.
