Help i want to pray Liturgy of the Hours but dont know where to start?

Never done this before so I’m lost I baught Shorter Christian Prayer and don’t know where to start. Would someone be willing to walk me trew the first couple of days?
 
If you have an Android device get the Catholic One App. It contains the Liturgy of the Hours, as well as the Rosary, Prayers, Daily Readings, and the Bible.

You obviously have Internet access (or you wouldn’t be here). For the first couple of days, try following the LOTH on Universalis, which has all the prayers (but an older translation of the Psalms). Click on: universalis.com/

From there, you can progress to the General Instruction of the LOTH, published online by EWTN, or you can ask your priest to order an ORDO for you (next one starts the beginning of this Advent), which will guide you through the daily feastdays of the Church, as well as the proper celebration of the LOTH.

Eventually, you will want to upgrade to a single-volume Christian Prayer - Liturgy of the Hours, which will have general instructions and guidelines in the single volume.

These are the best directions I’ve found. Click on the “Discovering Prayer” link. It goes through what to pray when, with an actual example, and includes page numbers to the major books. 👍

  Note that Divineoffice.org has an audio recitation of the hours.  They are getting started so have occasional glitches and errors, but are working hard to fix them.
I use the 1 volume Christian Prayer and Divine Office to get the Office of Readings, which is incomplete in the single volume.
 
Shorter Christian Prayer doesn’t have a St Josephs Guide. It has the 4 week Psalter and
some of the major Feasts. I typically use Christian Prayer and take Shorter Christian Prayer with me when I travel. Shorter Christian Prayer contains Morning, Evening and Night Prayer.

Tomorrow (Sunday 6/26/2011) will start with week I in the Psalter and we’re in Ordinary time which makes things simpler to learn. You can find which week week in the Psalter here

Since there’s no St Joseph’s Guide for Shorter Christian Prayer it doesn’t hurt to have a link to the online calendar anyway.

Here’s another short web page that is really helpful, in fact, it answered a question I had in a different post about which Marian Hymn to use for Night Prayer. :cool:

My mistake. I was just going by what Amazon was selling as an accompaniment. :o
 
I noticed there is no Saturday evening prayer. What do I do in this case? Also Sunday starts week I in the Psalter. What is the purpose of the Sundays in ordinary time in the back of the book also. Starting on page 503 with week I?

Saturday Evening Prayer would Sunday Evening Prayer I and Sunday Evening Prayer would be Sunday Evening Prayer II.
 
Lots of great suggestions on here. Another thing you may consider is that one of the Deacons in our parish leads the hours and anyone is welcome to join. My understanding is that praying the hours is supposed to be one of the roles of the Deacon. If you check with your parish you might see that someone has a group going praying the hours already. Going and participating was the easiest way for me to get a handle on it.
