My sister started to go to meetings and the “kingdom hall” on sundays because she fell in love with a man who is a Jehovah Witness who is an elder. she talks all the time about how our bodies are one with our spirit when we die until judgement day or “armegedon” (and thta’s just with 6 months studying with them)but we try and try to explain to her the truth. She believes that they are the truth. JW take advantage of people when they are hurt, distracted, lost, feeling unloved, and confused. My sister was going through a rough time when she met this man and he took advantage of her, because he knew what to say and when to say it. We cannot believe that they are trying to help in mourning or pain, but only to mislead you and make you believe and feel confortable with them. she is only 21 yrs. old. That just comes to show that its not only whats happening in a persons life but how vulnerable he or she is.

I have seen cases where one person will become a JW because they’ve “fallen in love”
Especially when the convert wasn’t previously all that serious or knowledgeable of the christian faith they were raised in.

Things change when the kids come along.
The convert’s upbringing outside of the JW’s seems to tug at their heart when they consider raising their children in this cult.

I have seen marriages break up over this.

There are some excellent books out there (check out a Christian bookstore or maybe online?) written by former JW’s. I would urge you to buy some and beg beg beg your sister to read them. She has already been warned NOT to read any ex witness material but maybe her curiosity will get the best of her? If she’s dating an elder, he’s already in deep and so will she be if they marry. If I were you I would literally do all I could to not let that happen. JW’s still don’t accept blood transfusions - they carry a card with them at all times stating NO BLOOD so if your dear sister were to be in an accident, it could be a matter of life or death. Not to mention the psychological damage the witnesses do to a person. I will pray for her…

That is very very wierd that you mentioned the NO BLOOD card because just today when i went into my sister’s room i found a video of the NO BLOOD and i had no idea what it was about until i saw that it had “Watchtower” on it and i knew it was affiliated with JW. Thank you very much for your help. and i will definetly go to a Christian book store ASAP. God Bless You.

We recently had a death in the family, and the other day a received a letter from a JW saying that she had read the obits and saw our name listed as survivors. The letter includes "the scripture at John 11:11 which tells us that ‘he said to them: Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep,’ and ‘for this reason I look forward to being reunited with my loved one, and you can too.’

It also included the leaflet, “What Hope for Dead Loved Ones” that states, “Nowhere does the Bible teach that man has an immortal soul that survives the death of the body.” It goes on to say, “What was Lazarus’ condition during those four days he was dead? Lazarus did not say anything about being in a heaven of bliss or a hell of torment, which sureley he would have done if he had been there. No, Lazarus was completely unconcious in death and would have remained so until ‘the resurrection on the last day’ if Jesus had not then restored him to life.’”

I want to reply to this letter with thanks for thinking of my family during this time. I also feel some sense of responsibility to reply in a “Catholic” manner to let them know what we believe. What would y’all recommend here? Carol Marie? Anyone else?
I would probably start out with the following passages. The soul survives death:

Genesis 35:16-19 and 1 Kings 17:17-24

The souls of martyrs are in heaven and conscious:

Revelation 6:9

Please read them carefully and see if they contain the information you are looking for regarding the soul surviving death.
