Hello all,
I am confused by the wording in paragraph 460 of the CCC, in the discussion of why the son of God became man. This paragraph states “the Son of God became man so that we might become God” and follows with the Aquinas quote “he [Jesus], made man, might make men gods.”
In the first quote, referring to humans as becoming “God” seems to strongly contradict Catholic belief. Followed by the second quote about men becoming “gods,” this is very confusing for me. Yes, we can “partake in the divine nature,” but this does not seem to extend to humans becoming “God/gods.”
Thank you for any help you can provide in interpretting what was meant by this.
