My sister in Christ (she’s also Catholic but struggling), is a former nurse having worked many years, in a multiple institutions in the US medical field. Without giving her details, she left because of so much heartbreak and a slew of corruption she witnessed from Drs above her.

Understandably, her question is about the role of the priest and if they participate in some sort of grave evil (in light of multiple corruption issues). She proposed… that since there’s many silences on corruption issues within the Church… why does the Church seem silent? Why does it seem like the silence is actually condoning this immorality or corruption?

I told her about what I learned recently with Paul, and the story of Galatians. He was quiet for a long time there with the Pharisees, he didn’t condone the behavior at all. But when it finally got to the boiling point of change being needed and education able to be brought forth - he fervently wrote the Galatians…

Can you be more specific about the type of corruption you are talking about.

I’m also not clear on what you mean by “many silences” within the Church.

Do you mean the Church doesn’t make a press release every time there’s some “corruption” issue or investigation going on? Often a party involved in a legal matter in USA nowadays will need to stay publicly silent because their lawyer will recommend it, and/or because there are legal reasons not to announce that an employee is suspected of a crime, etc . Once the employee is arrested and taken away and charged, it becomes a matter of public record and can be announced only then.

We also don’t know if the Church is silent internally. It could be having all kinds of talks with clergy and other people involved, that we’re just not privy to.

Or does she mean silence from the Pope when he doesn’t address some situation she thinks he should?

Part of the reason the situation in the Church got to such a bad poont is that many people who held higher positions remained inactive and/or silent about the bad things some people were doing. It took being dragged out in the open by the media for the hierarchy to start doing something.

This is tricky to answer. We don’t know what sort of corruption she has witnessed, nor what she has tried to do about it.

And as I said elsewhere, people are unwilling to move against miscreants whom they know or who are valuable to the organization.

That’s not the point. I’m trying to figure out what the OP meant, not engage in a general discussion about what the Church did and should it have done something differently.

And in any event, the Church even now in USA does not release any statement without consulting a lawyer, and it won’t for the foreseeable future. It needs to limit its liability in order to keep its insurance.

There is only one answer and one solution: Our Blessed Lady Immaculate. Tell your friend to consecrate herself to the Virgin Mary, wear the Brown Scapular, and pray the Rosary daily for the conversion of sinners.
