Help in understanding Matthew 12:46-50

"As he was yet speaking to the multitudes, behold his mother and his brethren stood without, seeking to speak to him.

And one said unto him: Behold thy mother and thy brethren stand without, seeking thee.

But he answering him that told him, said: Who is my mother, and who are my brethren?

And stretching forth his hand towards his disciples, he said: Behold my mother and my brethren.

For whosoever shall do the will of my Father, that is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.(Matt. 12:46-50 DRA)
This would seem to me a odd thing to say, considering that I’m fairly certain that Jesus loved His mother very much. Any thoughts. please?

He’s simply emphasizing that we must put righteousness/Gods’ will above all else, including familial love.

Because of the varity of TEACHING METHODS used by Jesus, one must look past the words used to unravel the TEACHING moment.

Here the message is one of priority:

First God
Then Family
Then work
Then everything else.

HERE is what the messge is:
Luke.14: [27, 33 "whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple. *** So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple*

It had NOTHING to do with love of Mother and family beyond making an example of a GOD ALWAYS FIRST PRIORITY:thumbsup:
