*HELP* Intention/Sin?

I was about to look on the internet at something that would’ve made me think sinful thoughts. I looked for it; telling myself that I’d resist the thoughts the whole time. I kept going, and finally realized; if I see the thing, I’m not going to be able to resist the thoughts. I stopped there, before I had found the thing. Did I commit a mortal sin, even thought I didn’t go through with the action? I tried to resist the thoughts the whole time.

I asked a priest this once and he said it was venial.

So since the action would’ve been mortal, but once I was completely sure of that, I stopped, the intention was only venial?

Except it was like I was trying to suppress my conscience at first, but once I realized that I was doing this, I hesitated, then stopped.
