My children are 17 (18 in Aug) and 16. They both say they don’t believe in God anymore though the 17 year old is more questioning his beliefs. The 16 year old has informed me she is gay and flat out doesn’t believe.
I have decided wether they believe or not they will attend church with me as long as I am paying their bills and they live under my roof.
They have agreed to wear a single medal of my choosing and I am asking which one would be most useful for the conversion of their hearts. I am not superstitious…I believe in the power of prayer. With that said, I am considering the Miraculous medal or the Scapular medal. The were both enrolled in the brown Scapular when they were in grade school.
Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

I’m not in your shoes but just a thought; have you considered giving them a choice of two and letting them pick one?

Mary.

Yes, I tried that. They chose none…lol
You are not alone. My two college aged daughter have left the Faith. My daughter going to medical school has been “blinded by science” and I have read a lot of doctors don’t believe in God.

The other who is a Junior in College isn’t sure. She has to experiment with some Churches and decide if she believes in a God.

I will pray for all our children struggling or that have denied the faith that the Holy Spirit will convert their heart back Home to the Church.

God bless, and I think your idea is awesome about wearing a medal.

Mary.

Pick whichever medal God leads you to. God blessed me with a Miraculous Medal for free at church. I’d suppose asking God which is best for you and following where He points is best. 🙂

If they are going to be for your spiritually troubled kids, why not sew them into their clothes?

In addition to the medal you choose…can you place a blessed Green Scapular in thier bureau or in thier room?

Not saying what you should do, I have 3 kids, two of which are teens too. we did not pull the authoritative position and “make them” go. We thought it best to advise the oldest, who would rather sleep in, the night before we would text or tell him we are getting up at the same time each Sunday. We made it known we would be proud of him and be glad to see him with us, Guess what…it didn’t work often. You can’t force a teen to chose God any more than you can force your teen to have certain friends, The most important thing you can do is set a good example. If they see you are consistent, and be joyful with your faith life, it will do wonders. Once a month we eat breakfast after church at a restaurant, and for a growing teen, food is good bait. Show them JOY, and see what happens.

Another thought. Presuming they were both baptized and confirmed. How about a name or confirmation saint? Or a Guardian Angel/Saint Christopher medal? Kids like angels, even when they get older. In your choice, avoid anything condescending or superstitious.

Make sure they both know that the door is always, always open. Make sure your daughter (who says she is gay) knows that she is loved forever, and deeply, by you.

As for you, it’s time you wore a medal too. Saint Monica.

I agree with most of the above!

But what about their daily lives. Are your children periodically affected by religion, then sent off to public school, and to the world full of various personality cults?

This is the reality of existence. Your task as a parent is to immerse yourself with true religion. Your task is to subtly change the home. If you act randomly, or boldly, your actions will not make any sense to either yourself or your children. You are human. Reflect your own foolishness on them! Teach them that your own foolishness (regardless of what sinfulness or ignorance it might have involved, regardless of what innocent choice it may have led to), has taught to you gradually add prayers for certain things. Assert your authority over certain romances.

For both you children, I pray. Let them know they aren’t headed for a regular life.

Very good advice above.

I’m leaning towards suggesting:

1.St. Benedict medal that is blessed with the right blessing, it’s an exorcism.
2.Miraculous Medal
3. St. Michael
4. Their Patron Saint, if they have one attached to their first or middle names.
5. Caravaca Cross, maybe. It has a wonderful history!

I highly recommend this: No matter which medal they wear, place a blessed St. Benedict Medal over at the very least front door/main entry door. I had just one over our Front door, but sent a dozen to my MIL where one was placed in every room. Serious issues going on in her life right now, she needs all the Heavenly help she can get. 🙂

I get mine at St. Leo Abbey in Florida, A priest is often available to say the proper blessing after you buy the medal.

I mentioned this in the other thread, but I’ll mention it again here: The Green Scapular is the scapular of conversion and, in my opinion, quite apropriate to your case.

I second both the MM and St. Benedict medal.

You may place a green scapular among their belongings and pray the prayer daily for them. Also, the “o Blood and Water” prayer for them as often as you can remember for the grace od their conversion.
