Sounds like they do not want to wear a medal, but since they were enrolled in the brown scapular, a scapular medal is already approved. These sacramentals prepare us to receive grace and dispose us to cooperate with it. Our prayers for others conversion is recommended by the Church, even against the will of those to be converted.
